Florida FUN fun...grading and buying

This past FUN show was fabulous. From Bruce Morelan's wonderful early dollar collection to Sheridan Downey's amazing bust half dollar auction, and all the social interaction between -- collector friends and dealers, I can't remember a more enjoyable time with coins.
I took advantage of early bird admission to get grading submissions into PCGS quickly and to browse the floor a day before the public. I attended club meetings, TPG luncheons (finally met messydesk...what a clever, likable fellow!), and along the way acquired some bust half dollars for my set. Here are a handful I thought I'd share.
Lance.
Bought as an old ANACS AU50, cracked and graded PCGS AU55. Four more (of six) from NGC, ANACS, and ICG upgraded.
Dick Graham helped me with this one. A modest but delicious AU50 at Rich Uhrich's table.
A few winnings from Downey's auction (the '27 O.122 R5 is special)
A couple from Dave Kahn and another friendly dealer
And several new AU58+'s. Here are a couple

I'm at a loss for words. Only "spectacular" comes to mind. Bringing those coins home clearly indicates the show was more fabulous than fun!

The one thing I will miss most about collectivecoin is viewing your half dollars, they had a really nice gallery to view your collection. Amazing collection and pickups

Lance, Are you cracking these out and putting into rolls so that you have room to store them? As always, nice stuff!
Great eye, Lance.

Wow...beautiful pickups (and great photos) as usual Lance.
How many die varieties are you up to now?
Nice on the grades and especially the 58+ 1815! Those images are just amazing!
Holy smokes, what a haul. Congratulations. lkeigwin...... What do you think of the price the 1807 CBH O-111 Prime went for in Sheridan Downey's auction?
If a true prime which I have no reason to doubt the auctioneer, looks like it went very reasonable compared to what I thought. If I only would have......
Sounds like you had a great time and you definitely picked up some great coins!!! Congrats!!!
That 15 is sweet.
My 1866 Philly Mint Set

Amazing group, Lance. Great pickups each and every one!
msch1man, around 270 die varieties. Among BHNC members, I am nowhere near the top. And I don't expect to ever be. But that doesn't stop me from filling holes and enjoying the series.
stman, I agree about the 1807 O.111' in Downey's auction. The winner got a steal at $3971. I see his max bid was $9191 so he was willing to go much higher but didn't have to.
Thanks for all the nice comments, fellas!
Lance.
Absolutely gorgeous newps Lance!
And, a huge congrats on winning the 1827 O.122 and the + on your stunning 15/2!
Very very nice!
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
I hope there are some MS63/64 coins in that group.....or I'm going to be very envious of you for buying them all as AU's. The 1825 and 1835 are really nice.
Very nice coins.
Lance knows a great bust when he sees one

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Thanks for showing me that 15-58+ at Fun, as well as some of the others. That 15 is special!
Tom
Right you are, rr. Grades, in order of appearance: 55, 50, 62, 63, 58, 61, 64+, 62, 58+, 58+
Lance.
Great coins and great pix.
How did the grading go at FUN? About what was expected? And I realize that Bust coins often get graded on a curve.
Nice group. Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on your upgrades.
I can't speak for everyone, and I'm sure results varied, but I was very happy with my submissions.
Lance.
Glad to hear you made out OK with them in general. Any observations on how Anacs and Icg have graded them over the years vs. the generally tight reputation of PCGS?
Looks and sounds like you had a lot a fun at the fun show Lance. The coins your showing are absolute knock outs. You have a great eye and a passion for your beautiful bust half dollars. Thanks for sharing.
You've heard the stories and read the opinions here, logger7. I don't think mine would add much. It's gone both ways for me.
The best advice is to study the coin and learn the series. Don't discount coins just because of the holders.
I would add that if you feel strongly the coin would not be bodybagged for cleaning or questionable color let's say, you are better off cracking and submitting raw. The TPG's are cautious with coins obscured by holders.
If cracking is risky then cross at any grade. And if unhappy with the conservative decision have it regraded once it's in a problem-free PCGS holder.
This has worked for me.
Lance.
great show and you did a great job getting some nice coins. Me no luck with any Bust dimes - i guess i will have to go to another show or 2.
Hi Lance. I was across the table from you at the Saturday lunch. Didn't know it was you.
Oh! I didn't recognize you without your flying eagle.
That was a fun time, passing around coins and chatting away. I was afraid the grown-ups were going to come over and tell us to be quiet.
Next time!
Lance.
