Dimeman's FUN show report.

I'm from Illinois so my long journey started by driving to Naples where my good friend Mike Hayes (MFH) lives. I arriver Wednesday to celebrate his birthday along with Joe (JMW).
Thursday we get to the show around noon and my first task was to take a box of coins to David Kahn for a trade deal we were working on. I left the coins with him to go over then headed to the table area to meet David from Sunshine Rare Coins to pick up
a Bust Dime he had for me...a 1832 JR6 PCGS50 with the Gorman pedigree. Very nice coin and will fit into my collection of Bust Dimes by JR number very nicely. I then went to Rich Urhrich's to look at a Roosie variety he had. I then started walking the floor starting at the 100 end looking at every table looking at every Dime that was a possible variety. Did not find anything and ended up on row 900 at the end of day. Also on this day I had a quick talk with Mark Stevenson about varieties and PCGS. I had sent him some info that he had not got to yet because of holiday's and work getting ready for the FUN show. Also met "JeffTampa" on the forums at the PCGS luncheon.
Friday we got there at opening bell and I started my "walk" on row 900. This day I found a 1908 RPD unlisted raw au 50-53. Later I found a 1939-D RPM-3 PCGS66 very nice coin and how I like my varieties......already in a PCGS holder. Continued the "walk" and came up empty finishing on row 2100.
Saturday I arrived (Mike and Joe did not return for Saturday) at opening bell again and started my "walk" on 2100. This day was a great day for finding some nice Canadian Dimes I needed for my Complete Canadian Dime Set. I picked up 5 coins all raw. 1891 21 leaves a 1891 22 leaves both nice circ coins. A 1903 nice au a 1905 nice au a real nice 1958 Ch Unc. At this table I got to talking to another Canadian coin collector and discovered he was "gotthebug" on the forums. At this time I dropped off some coins at PCGS to be graded and/or attributed. Some I had brought with me and some that I had purchased at the show. I then went to Dave Kahn's table and we completed the trade. 17 assorted coins for a 1820 JR12 (R5+) PCGSVG10 CAC. I then went back to Rich's table and showed him my for sale stuff. He bought some which made me happy. It was a really good show for me and my stay Hotel Hayes was very enjoyable. Every night after the show the 3 of us would talk coins a look at the coins we had found that day.
At this time I had finished the floor and finished all my planned deals and headed for Sarasota where me and my lovely wife will spend a couple of weeks doing whatever.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Jon,
Sounds like a good show. Thanks for sharing the info.

Jon- Great meeting you and thanks for the great report. It's wonderful to see someone with such passion for a singular denomination across all series. When you finally complete your quest remember to double down on Half Dimes.
Sounds like the long drive paid some dividends. Weather was better there than in Illinois (I can promise you).
Careful driving back.
Great report Jon.... Thanks .... Hope your vacation is great... Cheers, RickO
Great report.

Sounds like you had a great show. Thanks for sharing.
Great report my good friend. One day soon we'll meet up at the fun show. That one show I gotta make.
Looking forward to meeting you Joe. Take care.
Hotel Hayes!!!!!!! classic.
I haven't been to a show of any substance for awhile, do members still gather on the floor and spend time having a meal together??
Yes, we still do that from time to time.......especially when in Orlando. Hotel Hayes was in reference to Mike Hayes' house. He is MFH here on the boards.
For some silly reason when "Hotel Hayes" was mentioned I thought of "Hotel Whiskey"

C'mon, man!!!! I knew that. it was a two-part response, the first was directed at Mike and the second to the entire forum. we used to do those, they were classic. the best was the Baltimore CrabFest around 2003-4 when the ANA was hosted there.
Was Gene Wooldridge from Heartland Coins in Illinois in attendance? His shop has been closed for several days so I assume he went.

I really can't remember.......too many dealers to keep track of. It took me all 3 days to walk the whole floor.
Nice succinct report sans the door to door trip photos, gastronomical reviews and tour guide.
To answer my own question, yes. Glad that's where he went. He always brings back some sweet coins from that show and I scored a couple of nice coins yesterday.
Anytime his shop is closed for several days I'm usually right in that he's somewhere at a major show.

Nice report!
I am curious about attendance at the show. I have it from a reliable source that the graders at NGC cut short their time at the show and that left me wondering if that was due to slow submissions at the show or low overall attendance??
I couldn't say......I did notice that a LOT of the dealers were packing up Saturday and by the end of the day it was starting to look like a ghost town. People coming Sunday wouldn't see much.
Glad that you like the 1832 dime!
