Best deal you have gotten on Ebay

Mine was a business strike 1867 dime. Thankfully it was a buy it now! My heart was pounding as I checked that it wasnt a more common proof on the Gerry Fortin SD web book. I had wanted one of these since 1970! These are more available in AU and Unc for a price.

I bought an 1841-o baseball crack Seated half that graded PCGS XF45 for $205. Market value is somewhere around $4k. Another forum user bought the same coin in almost the same grade for almost the same price, so two of us have this story!

    I also bought an 1875-s micro-s Seated half in VG10 for $29. It's worth closer to $900.

These were purchased a long time ago; I've found nothing of interest on eBay the past three years.

Back in 2005 I bought my 1918 D 63 Walker for just over 2000 and it retails for 3600 today.

Also, my 1920-S 62 that is sharper and cleaner than most 64s for just over 1000. It retails for over 2000 today.

Super nice 1916 in 64 for 600 bucks, too.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I picked up two 1854 Huge O quarters a year or so back as part of a small coin lot for $100. They both graded, one F2, the other AG3.

Picked up a 1969 proof set for $5, submitted a few coins from it and got a PR69DCAM on the Washington. Back then it was a Pop 24 coin with none higher.

Among many 1 sticks in my mind. An AU 1861 Pikes Peak $5 for around $700. Wish I had it back! I had been searching for 1 for a customer for a couple of years!

Bought a 1972 Lincoln cent that was the DDO#4 raw for $75. It was the first of it's kind attributed by PCGS and came back MS64BN. Sold it to a forum member for 1200. A few years later, he moved it for an even bigger profit.

A 1976 Corvette Stingray with 17,000 actual miles for $12,500. The clock still worked and it was beautiful! The couple were in their 70's, got a divorce and she kept several cars from their collection. I flew to Florida and drove it back to Maryland.

My buddy owns a white 1976 Corvette with very low original miles----I'm guessing around 30K. Can't remember when he purchased it but I'm guessing it was no less than 20 years ago. He paid $10,000. Beautiful cars.

I picked up a master hub and die for a GAR medal (obv & rev) for $5.00 shipped. I was the only bidder. I did make a killing when I sold them.

    Cheers

The 1909-S VDB and 1914-D in the cheapie blue push in album. Before the snipe bids, and everything ending on Sunday Night. The only pictures were one of the open album taken by a satellite, and one close up of the "shiny" coins at the back.

All I could see were dark brown blurs on the first page, but everything was in their correct spots.

It was CHEAP, do not remember the amount. Those 2 allowed me to complete my Lincoln album.

There was also an auction, each having 50 coins, from cents all the way up, all in 2x2's, that promised a gold coin in every auction. Paid too much, especially as there were probably 100+ listings, and they kept getting higher and higher. I bought about 12 of them.

When I got the coins, they were OK, a good sample, many BU, a lot of Indian Head Cents, Early Lincolns, silver quarters, halves, Morgans and Peace Dollars, some Ike's, etc. but no gold coin in any of the boxes. I was thinking even a small foreign. Anyway, I contacted the seller. It turned out to be a quasi broker, who was being inundated with emails, and the RED NEGATIVES were showing up on his ID right and left about no gold. He explained that the "consignor" meant there was 1 gold coin in the TOTAL auction, not 1 in every listing.

He said he and the consignor had a big fight, as it had ruined his ebay rating, etc. He refunded all the money, and told me to keep the coins, free, did not want them back.

@MICHAELDIXON Nice. I've been working on a '75 for the past few years (haven't worked on it for a few years to be honest). Got any photos?

I bid on a '95W ASE on ebay and was outbid (back in '99)...was then contacted (outside ebay) by an individual that had a slabbed one for he wanted to sell and offered it to me... sent it on approval....I liked it and sent him the money.... considerably less than the ebay coin and less than 20% of today's value. I was really surprised when he offered to send it on approval... did not know him, never communicated with him before. I mentioned that, he said "Well, I am an attorney, and if there is a problem I will sue you forever." He needed cash to cover some stock shorts that went bad at the time. Cheers, RickO

I have bought many R8 varieties on eBay. But financially I bought a coin for 3-figures and sold it for mid-5-figures.

Bought an 1873-P Trade dollar that had one light chopmark on the central obverse for $235 buy it now. It graded 62 CM at PCGS ( which is top pop and only 5-6 are known in any grade ) and now resides in one of the worlds finest collections. Oh yeah, I made a few $$$ on that one.

    Trade $'s

Sorry was cut off, going to meeting while writing initial post. My 1867 dime was a nice VG with a minor scratch that PCGS slabbed with no problems. It cost $750. The point here is the opportunity to buy one of these in an affordable grade is few and far between. In lower grades knowledgeable dealers usually ask multiple of CW trends in VG.

There are no auction records for this date on PCGS Coin Facts below AU! Twenty coins have been slabbed under AU grade. The initial mintage is 6000.

Got a 1927-D Peace last year for $100 on best offer with a grainy picture taken by a potato. Graded 64 by PCGS...

Things I like to do: Collect PL Morgans. That’s is all.
