Meeting a renowned designer in numismatics

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭

While I think it would be cool to be able to chat with someone who designed some of our most popular designs (SAE/GAE/PAEs/etc....not SHQs as too many of those and most of the designs really suck), I just couldn't see myself asking for/getting a "signed headshot".

I see that MCM has the designer of the SAE reverse at their FUN booth and they have signed headshots.

Did anyone here get one? Where are you displaying it?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I don't think I'd like a headshot either. For an actor or a singer, where they themselves are the art that they produce, I think that's great. But with a coin designer, where the coin is the art (not the designer themselves), I'd prefer something else.

I have a couple first day covers with a window to view the actual coin/medal and the signatures of the designers/sculptors. These are great numismatic items imo.

I could see it if the photo involved the act of creation, for example, the following photo of Gilroy Roberts. It would be kind of cool to have a personalized, signed photo of the below.

It wouldn't be bad to have an autographed photo of just their art too, such as the original hub photo below:

I have never been one for autographed pictures. I do have a pair of boxing gloves signed by Muhammad Ali..and a couple of other boxing memorabilia...singers and actors are certainly not ones I would want mementos from.... nor would most coin designers appeal to me. St. Gaudens would be one that I would be interested in.... Cheers, RickO

I agree with the above...it was the "headshot" part that I shook my head on......I really like my coins, and I get some of them out and look at them often, but I just couldn't imagine getting a headshot of a designer. Cool to talk with, yes. A headshot of, ummmmm, not for me.

I had not seen that 1964 hub image before. Thank you for posting it.
