USAFA/Colorado
I know NOTHING about these but grabbed this for $35 shipped. Looks original with some lite toning.
Wanted one to give to our son who is a cadet there.
Was that a steal? Par? Did I overpay?

As mentioned on the holder this is a national medal authorized by Congress in H.R. 7290 (86th): An Act to provide for the striking of medals in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the settlement of the State of Colorado and in commemoration of the establishment of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
From a numismatics perspective, this is a So-Called Dollar cataloged as HK-542 in the "Hibler and Kappen" (H&K) reference.
As for value, you can check out sales of HK-542 here.
I read the holder too!
Yes, forgot that it is actually a So Called dollar!
I am aware of Ebay. That is where I grabbed it.
Without the informational card along with it, I would have said you overpaid due to the somewhat dark toning. However the card may add some value to it, so I think you did fine.
I still need to find one of these myself.... Congrats on the pickup.
Cool item!!!!!

I think you came out pretty good especially for the fact that it has the paperwork with it.
Great looking addition.

A nice medal in interesting packaging with a family connection. I think you did just fine.
Ha! A grad huh!?
Cool!
Kid is a C4C. Was just home for xmas break. We went out for I-day and parents weekend. VERY cool place!
Going back after Christmas was the hardest thing in my life. That was a challenging place back in the day -- a C4C in 75-76 !!! I valued every minute at home . . .

I think he was ready to get back. He had gone and seen the friends and babes he wanted to while home as well as some teachers etc.
He wasnt looking forward to the academics though. He was used to having to do very little to get all As even in his last two years of high school while taking virtually all college level courses.
He seemed fine returning. Now when we left after PW.....another story. Hahaha.
Nice gift... he will treasure it.... and remember, challenge coins are a big deal in the military, so they make good gifts as well. Cheers, RickO
