Can anyone tell me what mint boxes (date/times) the Homestead quarter Wddr-004 errors were found in? I believe there was only one date and a certain time frame. Thanks

i got 10 total, 6 of the greater variety and 4 of the lesser variety from the quarter machine at US mint headquarters lobby within a week of launch. so these were likely distributed for general circulation from the feds to banks.

In reading the original thread on these I still didn't quite get the answer to my question. It looks like the boxes that the 004;s were all found in are all dated 2/2 and the time frame's sweet spot was somewhere in the 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. time frame but I couldn't decipher if they were mostly in the HM1-P boxes or if they were found in the mint's mixed rolls of P, D, S (HM3) mint mark boxes. Well, no matter. I will be exploring a box in the morning that I just received today. Wish me luck. It's an HM1-P box dated 2/2/15 10:18 am.

I know when I lived there they received shipments of their change machine coins from and returned unexchanged previous releases from a bank

It was HM1-P boxes dated 2-2, in that 10-11 time range. I think I had 10 boxes. All yielded 004 (12 -28 per box).

10:25-10:35 yielded even higher amounts of the 004's for me.

Well, your wishes for good luck worked...I Just went through a box 10:23 - 2/2 and found 22 of the 004's and 20 others that I have to research for the ddr # . I was a little surprised to see how badly the rinse was done at the mint on these. Reminded me of the 2009 cents' spotting issue. Some samples are worse than others. Is there a safe way to remove the rinse streaks without harming the integrity of the coins or their grading potential? I'll look more closely at them later today for grading purposes to see if they're worth sending in. I have one more 2/2 box with a time of 10:10 so I'm hoping to get a few more of these. I realize I'm a little late to the party and the excitement for these has waned but to find a couple of boxes on the bay that fell within the sweet spot for the best of the best 004's was fun. Thanks for all of your input

the spotting issue on these is horrible in the past few years.

they will also use the low relief dies to the point of monster flow lines and badly softened details.

So, is there any way to treat these safely and remove the spotting and flow lines without compromising the coin for grading purposes?

you're not getting the flow lines and other aspects imparted from worn dies off the coin.

the spotting? I'm not sure if there is a safe way to remove them without leaving a telltale sign of cleaning.

If the spotting will not rinse off in a mild solution of popular coin cleaners, then you are likely stuck with them. Be sure to rinse well with alcohol followed by hot water... Cheers, RickO

I'm a little too late to the game, but I believe you could find them all the way up to 12:45 box and some as early as 10:30 I think. It's been a while, so I do not recall exactly anymore.

Although I do still have 10 or 11 sealed boxes from the specific period. I had opened two and got a full roll of them, plus one or two.

I live near one of the initial find locations for the Wisconsin leaf errors and had an opportunity to buy a bunch at $10 from a guy at a flea market. This was before it was big news and a lot of discussion was being thrown around that it was not a true error coin. They were Very nice BU coins but I passed. UGH. Later a dealer in Tucson was selling them and I didn't buy then either.

I just went through my second box and found 21 more of the 004's. I did find that one of them had a more gold tone finish than the rest on the reverse (pictured contrast). Not sure if it was improperly annealed or what. I also found a non-error coin with the same gold color on both obverse and reverse (showing reverse in pic) Opinions? Worth any premium? New discovery?

I hope that someone knows of these and will chime in if they have seen this golden toned finish on these before and if there is any significance value-wise due to rarity. I went through two bags and only found two samples (one with the 004 doubled die reverse) . The second coin has the golden tone on both the obverse and reverse. Is it just a novelty or is there something special about it?

I resurrect this conversation because I just opened another key box that I found. It had 21 of the 004's which of course is fantastic (if you're still into these) but I do have a question about another error found in the same box. Hoping others who have looked through the boxes that contain the 004's know what the error number that was also found inside those same boxes. They have a "candlestick" inside right of a middle window in the right column coming down. I have looked at Wexler's site and I'm wondering if they are the 002, 028, or 088. very similar errors. I'm leaning toward the 088 but want feedback from others. Thanks for any info you can provide.
