Ebay worse by the day it seems...

Hi-
I'm sure that this was discussed at some point but I didn't see it.
I know that Ebay is now decreasing the % back in Ebay bucks. I didn't know that you can't use Ebay bucks for coins. This apparently started in Oct. Does anyone know what lame excuse that Ebay had for this? Just so absurd. Once you earn the measly bucks why do they care what you spend them on.
I SO wish that Ebay had some real competition. They just get worse by the day in every respect.
Ugh!

Only one category where ebay bucks cannot be spent: "Effective January 1, 2017, Rewards may not be redeemed for eBay Gift Cards within the Gift Cards & Coupon category."
You can use ebay bucks to buy in any other ebay category. Try again, sometimes you have to manually enter the bonus buck certificate number in the coupon block during checkout.

At check out...you must indicate paying with paypal..(not paypal credit) your certificate will then appear, but not before
Thanks. I tried that, didn't work. Called and rep told me can't use ebay bucks for coins. New policy to protect it's customers. What BS.
I just finished talking to an eBay drones & she indicated that if the item is in a category that does not earn ebay bucks, you will not be able to use your bucks to make a purchase in that category.

You won’t be able to redeem your eBay Bucks certificate if:
It has expired
**The purchase didn't qualify for eBay Bucks
You didn't pay with PayPal
You exceeded the program’s purchase limits
I'll try again.
Was only $150 purchase, used pp. Even called rep . She said can't use for coins. Thanks
Among the uses of ebay I use is to set up a private listing for someone, so they can get something without competition but still have the protection of ebay. For example, I sell 1965 - 1968 Mustang parts. I can list it in Collectibles category, with the title of "private auction for Joe Doaks" and the description "This is a private sale for Joe doaks based on our agreed discussion. If you are Joe Doaks, please do not bid." I will then toss in a picture of 1 of my collies, and set the buy it now for $20,000 best offer, and Joe will make me an offer of $175, and I accept.
Joe gets or can use Ebay bucks, pays through paypal, and I can use, for example, Global shipping through ebay, a lot cheaper than the post office, and tracking all the way to destination.
Maybe not the most elegant, but a work around to the problem listed above. One must have a seller and buyer who can navigate the system.
Took 3 times trying to Pay then finally the Ebay Bucks worked on a Indian Cent.

Most likely a bug with their new exclusion of gift card purchases when using ebay bucks. Don't believe what a drone tells you, ebay bucks can be spent on items in coin category.

The change from 2% to 1% doesn't so much bother me so long as they still offer and I receive promotions that are in the 4%-10% range; those times are becoming the main times I buy on eBay.
I am also having problems spending my eBay bucks on coins. In fact, that's why I came to this forum this morning. I was glad to find this topic already created and a discussion already started on this hardship. I am sad, though, if this really does apply to all coins.
Under the terms and conditions of eBay Bucks spending, it still states coins qualify except Bullion, which Is how it was before. Maybe this is a new rule they have yet to update to the terms and conditions - that Bucks can't be spent on any coins at all.
I will try what a few members here have already suggested. Thanks for the suggestions ... keep them coming with success or failure stories. I buy other non-coin stuff on eBay, but not nearly so much as to be abel to use the full $500 within a month, so this is not exactly a small deal to me.
Interesting. Someone must have abused the gift card process. Big purchases, get eBay bucks at end of quarter, then charge back after getting gift card?

Most eBay coin sellers have a store and only pay 6% in final value fees.
At that rate, they can't afford to discount it.
I'm in the same boat, trying to pay for non-bullion a coin (listed only under: Coins & Paper Money>Coins: US>Dollars>Morgan (1878-1921)). I have selected PayPal (not credit), and it won't let me pay. The red error is: This code can't be applied to some of your items.
Same error if I cut/paste the code from the email I received from eBay.
Big Bonus Bucks offers thing of past, unless ebaY sales weak .. max 4x-5x offers x new bucks 1%
I found out you can't use their gift cards to buy coins either. What the hell do they care? They owe me the amount of the cars so what do they care what I buy. Such BS.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
A couple months ago I had a flash sale promo code, and it said could not be used for Bullion, but it did not work on any coins. I called and they told me that was the way they were headed. Well, now my ebay bucks are not working on coins, even though it specifically says cannot be used on BULLION. I called, and they said they were "working on it." I bet that means they are working on updating the policy to say no coins, period.
I bought a love token this morning with eBay bucks with no issues. The gift card thing really gets me. I don't understand the justification of not being able to buy coins with gift cards. So I stopped buying eBay gift cards.
In all the years I have bought and sold on eBay I have never received a bonus offer. I have called multiple times to no avail. I have checked all the correct boxes. Frustrating when I hear everyone else getting offers
What category was it listed under?
Thanks very much for the info. How did u finally get it to work. I tried the tips in this thread more than 3 times w no luck
Back in the 2007-2012 timeframe I got many offers and was a relatively big buyer on ebay of course. The last few years I have really cut back and the offers stopped, completely stopped.
Just bought a coin 1 min ago using eBay bucks with no problems.
I have multiple accounts. I have learned that the more buying an account does the more likely it is to get bonus buck offers (if signed up to receive them).

What do they care - exactly!!! I asked the eBay drone. Nonsensical answer. Like I said - worse by the day.
Crazy how some of us can and others can not use eBay bucks for coins. Ugh.
I had a busy day buying on eBay. At first I tried paying for 3 coins at once, and I couldn't use the eBay bucks. Then tried individually and couldn't use the eBay bucks. That's when I came here to see if what was going on could be explained. As the day progressed I won a few more coins and tried some suggestions in this thread, but to no avail. I tried manually pasting in the code in the code box. Same thing all the time "Can't be applied to some of your items". I tried exiting out and trying payment again, same error. Went into Paypal payment type. Changed from bank account to credit card, still couldn't use the coupon. Tried about all the permutations I could think of, but in the end I ended up paying for the coins without using my eBay bucks.
Just now, I tried paying for multiple coins I had won this evening. Bam! Was able to apply to all of the coins 100% and thus used most of my $500 eBay bucks simply by checking the box to apply the eBay bucks like I had tried so many times earlier today but didn't "take". I'm not in the clear yet, though, as it said payment still processing with a yellow flag. This was at the end, after I went through the Paypal payment process as normal. We will see if this stands.
I bought a coin in the US Error category last night and it applied the certificate with no issues. I did click through the email to activate it first.

I just used my bucks to purchase silver bullion rounds...no issues.
I rarely use ebay these days.
Yes! Payment cleared this morning for all I bought last night using eBay bucks! It seems any problems with using eBay bucks on coins at this time relies on timing, not method. IE: you don't have to manually enter the code in the box or change payment method. Try the simplest way and check the box near the bottom of checkout to use your eBay bucks. If that doesn't work, exit out and come back to try every five or ten minutes. Or fifteen minutes or half hour intervals. That's my strategy for using my remaining Bucks. It didn't work when I exited out and tried right back again 20 seconds later three times in a row, for instance - it worked at a completely different time of day. I couldn't get it to take in the morning or afternoon, but could late at night.
Be mindful of the other end, too; don't make the seller wait too long for their payment, though, and hold out for days just because you're still trying to apply the Bucks.
Maybe eBay really is phasing out the Bucks redeemability on coins, but it is not completely gone yet!
