Holiday downtime, $100 worth of silver quarters in a bag, and a Dansco album....

Holiday time is here. Many, like myself, will take some vacation time. What to do in that time varies for all......what I did is this:
A) Bought $100 in silver quarters on ebay (ebay bucks gave me $100 back) during a recent promotion, and from a large volume seller. Opened up our Dansco album for Washington quarters.
C) Put proper quarters in available holes (and/or upgrade a few slots)
It had 37 openings in the silver area when the bag of quarters came in. Previously, some of the holes were filled with quarters I inherited in the old blue Whitman holders I believe they were. The type that are super cheap and only show 1 side facing out, and a few other quarters that had come from a local B&M a couple of years ago, for melt.
Taking some tubes I had, I opened the bag and sorted them out into groups of $10. As I mentioned in another thread, I ended up with a nice, shiny, 1965 and 2 SLQs with no dates, in addition to all the silver Washies.
Took a little bit of time, over spare time in 2 days, but all the quarters have been gone through. As expected, a TON of 196x quarters....1964 being the most prominent and largely being in AU/MS condition. 1963/1962 were next and then some 1961 and 1960. Less of those last 2 than I expected, and in a MUCH lower condition that I expected, given the 1961-1963 conditions I found in the bag.
More 1945, 1936, and 1950-x than I expected.
The holes that still exist for us had some expected ones but some that I would have expected to actually be there...
Overall, to go from 37 to 9 open slots is not too bad, imho. Maybe I will go for another bag or two. Worst case scenario, they are worth melt, or 25c
Holes still existing:
1932-D (expected to not fill)
1932-S (expected to not fill)
1936-S (expected to not fill)
1937-D
1943-D
1946-S (expected to not fill)
1955
1955-D (expected to not fill)
1958 (expected to not fill)
Many of the ones we did fill were low grade (1934-D was a surprise to find and is pretty low grade, but was nice to fill the spot).
1944-D was pretty well worn as well...rim area so worn it was rounded into the coin but the date is still readable.
1944-S is shiny (cleaned)...but it was in the bag and filled a hole for now.
1937-S found and had more meat, but was too shiny (cleaned)...still, a hole filler for now.
1936-D found, very low grade
Found a 1942-S that, initially, since it was so shiny and clean, I thought was a 1964.
Overall, kind of fun to do....I've never just ordered a bag and then gone through to hole-fill. Always thought about it. I think Washington Quarters (silver), probably the most fun to do it (bigger than the dimes), and I already have UNC set of Franklins in a Dansco, so didn't want/need to do them, and not many silvers in a Kennedy group, so it wouldn't have been fun (to me).
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Did you check for any varieties like type B or type C? It sounds like fun though.
Dansco albums are fun to fill. Sounds like you found a nice deal on the bag.
Cool
Not yet. I have kept the bag of coins (now in tubes) set aside so I can use some more downtime (maybe next week) to sit with them and the cherrypicker's guide....

This, what you're doing, is what I call pure coin collecting!!

I remember back in the day ( 1963-1965 ) you could fill the entire set less the 32 D and S from a $1000 bag from the bank.
Great fun.... brings back the old time collecting.... jar of change, album..spare time... Cheers, RickO
Sounds like fun!
