Missing return to US Mint - been 7 days

My apologies if this is a redundant post. A week ago (12/2) i returned via USPS Priority Mail two Centennial WLH to the US Mint in the same packaging and insured for the full amount with tracking number. To date, I have heard nothing from the Mint fulfillment center or USPS on the status of the shipment. I typed in tracking number on USPS site and the comment field stated that as of 12/5 package was in transit. Am I being a little over eager on my concerns or should I escalate this issue to the USPS now? I called Mint yesterday and they had nothing. Seems very suspicious to me. Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance.

It is Christmas overload. Everything USPS is taking much longer than expected.
Yes, heavy shipping season... give it some time, it is insured. Cheers, RickO
Priority mail usually arrives in 2-3 days. Maybe holidays a factor. Bit more expensive and longer but I ship anything over 1k REGISTERED. Rare they "lose" that kind of mail.
At that value, registered mail would have been slower, but safer.

USPS tracking is way behind also. I had a package show up my Post Office but tracking didn't show it here until 2 days later.
It's not exactly missing after one week in transit during the holiday shipping season, the USPS won't instigate any claim resolution at this short a time frame and the US Mint can't help you because they haven't received it yet. I know it is frustrating, but I would suggest more patience.

Returned mine on the 25th of Nov. and received it today. You'll not get any info. from the mint until it is shipped. So the turn around time for me was 15 days.
That's usually my threshold for registered too. It's somebody's job if a registered goes missing and it it so rare that one does. Express is another somewhat safe option. Those very rarely go missing but it has happened. My PO supervisor said in his 16yrs he's heard of not 1 registered go missing and only 2 express in all that time
Op, you can go to your PO and ask them to put a trace on it if you are that worried

Is there a reason you didn't use the Prepaid UPS return label provided by the mint. It had the return rma and everything needed right on the label.
Since when did the mint's return label provide prepaid shipping.

If you crunch the numbers that include cost of insurance you will find that something around $700 becomes cost effective when switching to registered mail. All registered mail is now automatically insured for declared value with insurance no longer an option. Declared value drives up the cost to ship. You will also find that usps only covers a bullion loss if it was sent registered. Their definition of bullion is unpublished and most likely evasive, why risk it.
A little known advantage with registered is that you can purchase electronic return receipt (on-line viewing of the signature) at a cost less than signature confirmation. Ebay/paypl accept this as proof of delivery.

Thanks for all the informative comments. Really a great board for learning stuff. I did ship with the return label. I also reached USPS and they agreed to open an investigation on my package and get back to me in three business days. The USPS number I called was 678 279-7980. That number speeds up the USPS process on missing packages and the agent was very helpful. Finally, I learned that one has to wait 15-60 days to file a claim. Hopefully, it will not come to that. Thanks again to everyone for the sage advice on my little issue! Great community here.

I got on the mints chat line. The person that assisted me emailed me a prepaid label. I printed it and taped it to the return box dropped it off at ups and I got my WLH from UPS today. I guess that must not be standard operating procedure? First time I ever returned anything.
When there is a problem with the merchandise, and I have called and explained it to them, I have always, since I can remember, been sent an email with a return label. I have only returned things in the last 7-8 years though, so not sure what they did before.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
