Charmy's November 2016 BALTIMORE SHOW REPORT w/lots of Pics!

With the overall market being on the slow side, I adjusted my expectations for this show, but I still very much looking forward to being be back in Baltimore! I arrived in Baltimore late on Tuesday so I would have all day Wednesday to put my bags in security, visit with some dealers, register, view some auctions, and acclimate to the 3-hour time change. This is a beautiful picture of the sun rising as we were taking off out of Orange County.

Several hours later we were landing in Baltimore!

After taking care of business on Wednesday, I headed to the Horseshoe casino that evening and ended up playing in a poker tournament.

The final game of the World Series was also playing on every tv screen throughout the casino so it was easy to follow the amazing Cubs win! After a few hours of careful play, I was very pleased to end up third in the tournament with 68,000 in chips and a $405 portion of the pot!

Wednesday morning came early and I headed over to the show around 7:30am for the 8:00am set up. There was quite a crowd of dealers waiting to get onto the floor.

After setting up my booth, I wandered around the bourse looking for some coins on my customer want list. I came across these amazing proof/pattern Flying Eagles on display at Kagin's table. They will be featured in their auction at the Orlando ANA next March.

When the show opened to the public, there was quite a crowd and the room soon had a nice buzz. I was pleased to be pretty busy throughout the day. With the market being slow, I decided to be very cautious in my buying during this show. Though I did find a few good deals that I couldn't refuse including several low grade but original key dates, I didn't find any really "big" coins this time around.

Also, the new Third Edition of Whitman's Flying Eagle and Indian Cent book just came out. I was privileged to be asked to write a section in the book on Flying Eagle and Indian cent exonumia and was very pleased that Whitman did a beautiful job with the article and photographs (though I thought it was interesting that they titled my section "A Meditation")!

Thursday night we headed to one of our favorite restaurants in Little Italy, Da Mimmos.

While waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, I ran into one of my fellow exonumia collectors, Richard, at the bar of the restaurant. He had sold me a some of the Indian cent teapot pieces in my latest exhibit ("Penny Pots and Pins Made by Offenders and Defenders"), including a charm bracelet that was made by a prisoner at San Quentin.

Also in the bar are lots of photographs of famous people who have been to the restaurant, including these two photos which were side by side on the wall in the bar!

I also saw an old photo of one of my handsome heartthrobs!

Isn't Tom adorable?!!!

I also ran into a group of my friends at the restaurant who were celebrating a birthday there.

I always look forward to hanging out with my wonderful bff Cindi!

Right around the corner from the restaurant is world famous Vaccarros desserts so we couldn't resist grabbing one of their tasty cannolies, gelatto, or other yummy desserts! And we ran into more coin folks waiting for one of their tasty treats!

Friday started out slowly, but I soon had several people looking for some nice copper. I also had several forum members stop by to say hi.

This is Fred/MisterCoinMan

This is John/Jayless

Friday night is our amazing wine and dinner event in the wine cellar of Black Olive with my "Dark Side" folks.

There were nine of us, and I think we had at least that number of bottles of wine throughout the evening, starting with this wonderful white wine!

This very tasty grilled octopus is their most popular appetizer, at least it's very popular among our group!

This is one of the mixed seafood appetizers.

Olive leaf wrapped cheese

More wonderful wine!

I had this awesome skewed grilled lobster, which was very yummy!

This was an amazingly delicious dessert wine!

Followed by a super delicious dessert, baklava ice cream!

Before the public arrived on Saturday, I took a walk around the bourse to take a few more photos.

PCGS folks!

NGC folks!

James Sego/Quality Assurance and team

Todd Pollock/BluCCPhotos and his dad Roger/MustangGT

Jim Bush and his beautiful new wife Bethellen

I was very pleased that Saturday ended up being quite busy for me with several nice sales. But soon it was time to pack up and catch my flight home. Bye bye Baltimore....

My hubby Lou was there as usual to pick me up at the airport. As an update, he is doing really well and getting used to the limitations of his neck fusion. He is also grateful to be back at work (he's a lineman for SoCal Edison) and, in his words, "glad to be off the couch and useful again"! Even the dents in his forehead from the halo are fading.

And of course, it was great to see my little (chubby) Penny!

Next up: The Las Vegas Club Show on December 9-11.

So sorry folks, this was the first report I've posted since the new format. Uploading the photos was very time consuming, but they should all be there now, and in their proper order!

Your reports are so fun. Thanks for continuing to do this. Your chapter in Rick Snow's penny book looks like a must read. By the way who are the two kids with The Donald and Hillary in their photos?

If there was a "Love, love, love" button to click, I'd be clicking it rather than the "Like" button. Liking does not express how much I really enjoy your reports. They are a highlight!

Nobody's picked on you yet, so just to get your head out of the clouds, I thought i'd "right" a response to your thread. BTW, I do enjoy reading your show reviews, interspersed with wine and food tastings. Keep up the great threads and watch out for the spelling and grammar "Nazis".

Great report. I live in Baltimore and you hit many great spots. You should send your report to The Baltimore Chamber of Commerce. After all that is happened over the last few years in Baltimore, positive and upbeat discussion of Baltimore is most appreciated. We are trying to get back our "charm city" reputation

    Hey! a Large Cent!

Those are the first gasketed rattlers I've seen. Do you come across those every so often or are they pretty uncommon?

Thank you everyone. I especially enjoy meeting the folks who take the time to stop by my table at the shows and let me know they read and like my reports. It means a lot to me to know that so many people read these reports.
