1809/1809 8 reales overstrike 8 and question for experts..

Picked this up at the Heritage auction, the 8 has been overstruck with another 8.... Is this a known variety? The images can be enlarged. I looked at several other 1809 coins and cant find one with it. Tell me what you think?

Thanks!

I think that there are many minor varieties, the vast majority are undocumented. Within the colonial portrait series there are several over dates and over assayers which garner the majority of the attention. The premium variety market for Spanish colonials is nearly non-existent.

There are a number of repunched legend elements in the series. Each letter and number was punched in one by one and if these happened to be too far off from the guide line, they were repunched. These are considered minor varieties. Nice pick-up, though. I was tracking that one and the 1803-TH.
