Want to see a cool item

Best I can tell from a few knowledgeable people is that it is a a mint strong box that contained dies. May be from the Carson City mint .Anyone else want to weigh in with an educated guess.

My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress
What is it made of and how heavy is it.
Looks like cast iron ?

Very cool! I just picked this cast iron strongbox up the other day. Yours is original. Mine has been refurbished.

It's a Samsung Note 7 return shipping box.
I don't see any fire retardant asbestos lining - can't be for a Samsung, can it ?

What is the size about 18x12x6? Judging next to a 28" door
I would say that is about right

It makes my mouth water for all the CC Gold that might of been in there......
i am thinking it had gold in it too.
Fill that box up with gold and no-one would be able to lift it. A cubic foot of gold weighs 1204 lbs.
The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Weren't dies shipped in wood crates? I seem to remember hearing they were and that no original crates are known to exist today.
Neat item though. I'm thinking maybe a millirary payments strongbox ?
Neat item... the interior looks like a different material... lead or even concrete... from appearances anyway. Can you weigh it? Seems very substantial. Cheers, RickO
Aw man! Both of those strong boxes are so cool!
Great conversation (or thread) piece!

Very cool
Does it not say "Carson Mint" at the very top of the second photo?
Good eyes, you are close. It says Carson Mint

I like it ! Very cool piece of history
Ouch. I missed the Carson mint at the top. The vammer in me is kicking myself.
Kinda cool. Never figured out exactly HOW it was made, but all the colors were right.
I believe this is the box that housed the Kryptonite that caused so much discomfort to Superman from time to time.
At any rate very interesting piece of history.
