PAN Show Report - Thursday 11/27

This was my second PAN show. I wasn't sure I was going to attend but I decided at the last minute to go today. I attended the one earlier in 2016 and was impressed so I went back today. It's a 3 1/2 hour drive from NW Ohio for me so I got started around 8 this morning. Traffic was a non-issue (PA Turnpike) and I arrived around 30 minutes after the noon opening. The show is held at Monroeville PA Convention Center. I noticed the attendence seemed light compared to opening day at the spring show. It was nice being able to walk the aisles and see coins pretty much with no issues. The only trouble viewing coins I had were the vest pocket dealers planted in front of Dealers cases with their wares spread all over the place!! I hate that!! But that happens at all shows these days apparently.
There was a decent mix of slabs and raw coins availble. I did not see many better date, slabbed Gold coins. Actually now that I think about it Gold was a bit sparse in my opinion. Widgets were plentiful includings enough slabbed Walkers and Frankie's for about every person in Pennsylvania! But Morgans dominated the landscape by far!!! I did not see many true Moose toned Morgans which I found strange. The Dealers were all very friendly as were the PAN volunteers. The venue was spacious and security was never an issue. A well done show! I came to Cherrypick and was very happy with my results. My booty included four 2 Feather Buffs. The Coin Gods were good to me today. I highly recommend this small/medium sized show. Two thumbs up!

I would very much like to attend the PAN show but they don't make the hours very working man friendly. Rush hour usually starts about 3 and runs till 6. Makes it difficult to get to their location and as you said it is fairly slow so most dealers start closing early. Unfortunately my schedule always seems to conflict with their Saturday hours. I think if the hours ran until 9 or 10 rather than 6 the dealers would do much better.
Thanks for the report.... lack of gold is likely due to the slump in spot..... although, I am sure there were potential buyers.. at least there should have been. Cheers, RickO
I played hooky from work for a couple of hours to attend the show yesterday. After years of living very far from any shows, I feel lucky to have such a good mid-size show in my own backyard!
I arrived early - PAN members are allowed in 30 minutes before the show starts. It's nice to have a little while before the rush of wheeler-dealers.
I agree that gold was less evident than usual. However, I struck gold on both of my first two stops. Stephen Fischer always has quality coins, and he knows what I like. He sold me a gorgeous and thick-skinned 1905 quarter eagle for my "short set" (1900-1907). Next up was a super $10 Liberty from Robbie and Rob at the Reeded Edge - perfect for my type set. I also picked up an impulse buy - my second ever darkside coin - a Mary and Henry Scotland Ryal. It's a big, old thaler-type coin that had caught my eye at the spring PAN show. I figured it had waited for me all this time, I'd better take it home!
After that, things settled down for me. I enjoyed walking the bourse and chatting with some of my favorite dealers, but didn't find any more must-haves. There were several tables with impressive selections of medals - very tempting! Some very nice modern foreign coins, too. Morgans and popular 20th century issues (wheaties, buffs, mercs) were well represented. Made me wish I were a cherrypicker!
Although the early crowds seemed a bit light, things seemed to have picked up by the time I left, around 2pm. All-in-all, it was a fun, successful show for me. An easy venue, a great selection of dealers, and a very friendly atomosphere.
Thank you for the reports, surprised at the lack of available gold.
Thanks for the report.
