So why do we have the Disagree button?

It's just like E-Bay. All it takes is for some one or two not to like what you say and go on a rampage it's like a Neg feedback some how. I know one member here that has over 350 in just day's and that is going a bit to far I think. What do you think?

A couple of days ago I posted a coin photo and didn't say anything and got a "disagree". lol

Some people get their enjoyment by stirring up s**t.
This feature encourages this, while allowing the s.d. to remain anonymous.
Adds nothing to the forum or to the discussions which make our hobby/livelihood enjoyable.
I think it "dumbs down" the forum.
I have decided not to use it.
Agree that it's an unnecessary function. If you disagree with what someone else has posted, make another post stating your case.

What benefit could it possibly be to the forum as a whole, PCGS, or individuals? I see only a detriment to the forum's operation. Why has it not been removed?

I posted a placeholder in the centennial gold thread, stating the just released HHL number, the cost of the coin at current gold spot -$50, spot and spot +$50. Four lines, four facts, and got a dislike.
Bizarre. Well, welcome to today's internet.
Yep... well... some people drink, some people take drugs.. others sit in the dark and play with themselves.... while still others get their jollies by disagreeing... what fun...

I put a single dot on a thread and got disagreed with! lol

I think to some extent it can be valuable in a thread where someone is asking for advice or input, and someone provides flatly bad advice.
For example, What is this $4 Stella worth? Reply: Melt value, those are very common.
This would be a case where I could see a disagree would be useful. Obviously that's an extreme example, but I think you get the point. That being said, there has certainly been abuse as well.
I Agree
Now that we can clearly see who disagrees, the button becomes relevant IMO.
Hopefully it will cut down on the "I disagree" posts.

would be useful on a guess the grade post, perhaps?

lets just set the record straight.
we should all agree to disagree!

Collectors can disagree... And that is okay. I am not convinced that a disagree button takes the place of a well written exchange of thoughts
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
As in the other disagree thread - I disagreed with all responses. Was all in fun and not aimed at anyone in particular.

I used the LOL to have fun. I didn't do disagree unless I disagreed with what was being said, as I figured that it may rub folks the wrong way.....using LOL as a button served the purpose to poke in a fun way (but now, Lakesalmon knows it was me...oh well
)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Poor ricko, Well he know who it is now, I rec 7 on this one. Maybe I will give out a gift for the most Disagrees.
Hoard the keys.
so jerseycat101...the same dude that complained about post counts...is the same dude running around disagreeing with ricko, everytime he posts anything??? Classy
Yup! so how did you know about the three thing I do? I never disagree with you.
Hoard the keys.
@Type2.... I have your house bugged.....

Cheers, RickO
Well, not every time he posts. Only when he criticizes tarnished coins. And he hasn't done that lately, thankfully.
I agree with everything!

I like toned AND white coins.
Even if it appears negative, I value Ricko's opinion and enjoy his posts.
