Anyone ever Deal with Mayer Numismatics?

I bought a coin off Ebay from this dealer from Beverly Hills. He shipped the coin to me on Oct 3rd. It shows the coin still in Anaheim today. Last week I contacted the dealer and he informed me that sometimes packages get lost? Last Friday Ebay let me open a claim and made me wait until today to hear back from the Dealer.
He Never contacted me so today it went to claims and they of course approved to refund my money. The funny thing is in there email it states...We didn't receive valid tracking information from the seller. We're sorry you had a problem with your purchase, and we're issuing you a refund for this case.
Now that has me wondering if this dealer ever really shipped the coin? Does anyone here know this Dealer or had deals with them? I really wanted this coin and just cannot understand why the dealer would not refund the money and let it go until ebay refunded?
I am going to keep this coin in my registry set and see if and when someone wants me to release the coin. But right now it sure makes me wonder what is up.......
Thanks for any insight....................Tom

why put it in your registry set when you don't own it?
Actually it is against the rules to place a coin in your registry set if you so not have possession of the coin!
I believe that if the seller chooses to pay for shipping outside of purchasing through ebay, then tracking info is not sent to ebay. So they would not have received any info for that reason and not because he did not ship it at all. The fact that item shows in Anaheim proves that something was entered into the mail.
It looks like they have a website, although nothing posted for sale on it.
If I were you I would try to give them a call and see what they could do about it if you really wanted it, it may be a bit more of a hassle but sometimes it is Ebay or USPS. Not really sure though if he didn't respond to your case..
I've done transactions with this forum member, and I have no reason to consider him anything other than totally reputable.
If you want to blame him for non-receipt despite the very real probability that it was a shortcoming of the Postal Service, then it is obvious that you have very thin skin. I agree that the seller may have neglected to manually provide tracking information, but that isn't necessarily enough to make you judge and jury on the status of the package. How do you know for a fact that the coin was shipped on October 3, if as you say there was no tracking provided ? Did he send you a fax or image of the Postal receipt from the accepting branch ?

I bought the coin on Oct 1st and paid for it does that Not make the coin Mine? The tracking number I got was from the ebay system after I purchased the coin. On Oct 7th the coin was supposed to be delivered and I contacted the dealer.
I wanted to let him know that maybe he should call the PO. I have had a Package stolen from the Anaheim office before. So when a package sits there for more than a few days I begin to worry. Thin skin? I would have thought the dealer could have contacted the PO on Oct 8th and ask where is this package.
I think I was more than patient waiting for this dealer to let me know that he at least looked into this problem. No response since I opened the claim last week. I will just move on and look for another coin but my idea of leaving the coin in my set is if the coin was stolen and someone tries to register it, that I would be
contacted and asked to release the coin.
I guess I always thought after I pay for a coin its mine..... I also know the post office screws up but should a seller at least try to find out what happened and contact the buyer? Guess Not............

I bought just one coin from this dealer (It's a beaut!), through ebay, in April 2015. No problems at all.
Seven years ago I returned an 1864 IHC to a dealer. It never arrived so I never rec'd a refund. I still have it in my PCGS online inventory. At this point I should probably delete it.
Lance.
I have purchased a couple of coin for the dealer, and I have also returned a coin for a refund with no issues. It appears that the dealer's communication could have been better on the coin. If the Post Office lost the coin, it could show up in a couple of weeks.
I feel your pain. It is very frustrating. As a seller I bend over backwards to communicate with all buyers during the closing process. Most sellers also act the same as I do. Coinduece must have gotten up on the wrong side of the bed today. That was a very aggressive response
I have bought a few coins from this dealer in the past on eBay, most recent maybe a few years ago. No problems.
Since you got your money back and never received the coin, you don't own it as I understand ownership.
I've dealt with him before directly. Good guy
Latin American Collection
I've bought from him before with success.
Coincidentally, I just bought a coin from his ebay store yesterday.
Here's hoping it is a problem-free transaction!
He has 215 Positives for feedback in the last 12 months, 2 Neutrals and 5 Negatives. All the negatives seem to be around no receipt, slow shipping or poor communication
I've dealt with him on several occasions and never had a problem.
Hi Tom,
I sincerely apologize for our poor handling of communication in this case. I've added the tracking number below which shows the coin leaving the local PO on October 3rd, and stalling at a sorting facility shortly thereafter. This number is automatically added to the transaction details page via Paypal's label-printing service. I should have been far more communicative and issued you a refund when it became apparent something was wrong. I'm currently at the PCGS Invitational in Dallas. As our website is not currently in use, the contact information is outdated, but I can be reached anytime on my cell, 858-964-0964.
It's a beautiful coin and I hope it turns up!

Tom. Is the coin a TY B reverse? Wondercoin.
No it was Not the Type B. Here is the link to shipping number that shows the coin just vanished on the 4th. It also shows when and what time he shipped. I also see he has responded to this thread and I do appreciate that.....

Been there, done that. Not Anaheim, rather, at Usps Distribution Center Raleigh Nc, I lost two coins. Tracking simply stopped on both coins. After that, I'll never ship to NC again.
It's the distribution centers.
I'm sure it's not related to your package but they just busted a postal worker for dumping mail in the woods in Atlanta.
LOL, I figured you were joking, but,

Poor guy is under the bus for a $50 coin that he didn't lose!
I fully agree with statement and makes me wonder about your ethics ?
You guys are funny, the coin was mine up until I was refunded by ebay. It is no longer in any of my sets. I have been working on registry sets since I came to this site 6 years ago and have completed 2 sets and working on my third. All coins in my sets are in my possession and have always been.
If Ethics had anything to do with this I would be buying POP 1 coins not 50 dollar coins. I am actually a collector who enjoys putting a set together.Did you guys read the dealers response? Lighten up a bit as I have not hurt his reputation, he sent the coin and its lost and it is his problem to find out where it went.
All I ever wanted was to find out what happened to a coin I paid for and never received. I guess from now on I will not add a coin after I buy it and will wait to get it in my hands just to give you both a warm fuzzy feeling........I am sure that I am not the only one who is excited to add a new coin to there set after buying it.....Who would think the coin would go missing?
Enjoy Tom

The purpose for which you state that you will keep the coin in your Registry Set (notification from new owner for you to release ownership) is accomplished simply by having the coin in your Inventory. You should withdraw the coin from your Registry set if you are not in possession of the coin. I have no problem with the ethics of keeping the coin in your Inventory, since you did pay.

Keeping the coin locked in his registry set/inventory, shouldn't be a big deal.....someone "finds" the coin and they won't be able to just pop it into a set.....Tom can let PCGS know the coin was "lost" and then parties can sort things out as I believe he WANTS the coin still, if possible
I must be a bad person too, as I have purchased a coin off ebay, and from online dealers, and added it into my registry sets before it arrived as well. I sent the money, coin was sent and on its way to me, so I figured it was kosher to add to my set.
Hmmmmmm
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I was just stating the rules! Please don't begrudge me for stating the facts!
once the refund was confirmed it is NO longer your coin, Correct?
Few here knows how a true collector feels when a coin he has set his eyes on and buys disappears.......it can piss a true collector off because the true collector wanted the coin for his collection. So when a dealer ignores the collector trying to track down the missing coin it makes a collector feel angry/frustrated that the dealer doesn't care to help and thus doesn't give a cr*p about the coin. Sure the collector would be made whole but it isn't about getting the money back, it's about getting the coin back. Few here understand these concepts because most here side with he dealer since most here are in fact some sort of dealers. I wonder how long the dealer would have ignored the collector/customer if the collector/customer never aired his problem here?
I have had the same thing happen, waited on a coin a week after it was supposed to arrive. Called the post office and they found it the same day. Sounds like the seller was busy and probably didn't follow up. Doesn't hurt to have a little imitative.
