US coins from the 1930's and 1940's

here are a few coins within my collection that are from these eras

some were bought but most were found in change or given to me as gifts

1932d wheat penny (given to me by my sister in law

1938 nickel(found in change)

1940 wheat penny (found in change)

1934 wheat penny (found in change)

1943D silver war nickel (found in change)

1921 Morgan dollar (bought from local coin shop)

1939 nickel (found in change)

and one very special coin this 1943s steel penny (given as a gift for my mom's b-day)

some photos may look odd but it's the lighting I used when I took them

Very nice! Coins like these don't make headlines, but they are the warmest reminders of my own youth (I was born in 1954, began collecting about 1961) and the coins I used to find in change and in rolls here in CT. I remember lots of 1939 nickels, an occasional Indian cent, an AG 1916-s walker, and a fine 1914-s cent. Lots of fun in those years when pocket change could actually yield a surprise.

well to me they are common everyday reminders of those eras, used by many people to buy everyday items back then , quite interesting to think who could of used these coins and what they bought with them

Those dates were common in change when I was a kid.... now, not so much. I always put the older ones aside now.... that '43 cent mint mark looks more like an 'S' than a 'D'....could be the picture I guess...Cheers, RickO

Memories. In high school, I swapped rolls at the bank, every day. Found every Lincoln except the 09-S and 14-D, but did find a 55 DDO!! Also every Buffalo, every Mercury except the 16-D, every Walker. A couple years later, I was a bank teller, and in 1964 found myself handing out JFK halves to bank customers (limit: 2, but only a dollar). The contrast with the base metal funny money in circulation today is inescapable: Rome's silver coinage was debased to copper. Took two centuries, too.
