It doesn't even have reeded edges. The good fakes do.

    Racketeer Nickel.

    She did.

new auction with proper description - lesson learned

You are bidding on 1 (one) USA 1883 gold plated nickel,

this is not a gold piece.

    Called a 'racketeer nickel',

as they took Liberty nickels of the year 1883

    without the word 'cents' added

yet & gold plated them to pass off on unsuspecting suckers

I think this seller with 10,000+ feedbacks (100%) truly didn't know what this was. They had a regular $5 gold coin for sale as well. Dear old Mom played a trick on too-trusting Susie.

But is it a real racketeer nickel now that she has it listed as such?
    I love the 3 P's: PB&J, PBR and PCGS.

No, it's not a "real racketeer" but just a copy of a copy of a racketeer, or some such.

Then I guess I better hope someone outbids me. My bid isn't too high and Ebay is full of people more gullible than me. Or I'll go withdraw my bid.

OK. It's a double racketeer nickel. If only those scammers in 1883 could have known it would still work 130 yrs later....lol.

I've often thought about the people that were scammed by this back in the day. They couldn't just get on the 'net' and check things out. Newspapers weren't even so common that could have informed you of a new issue. That had to be a pretty hard hit in 1883....
