I have heard it stated that if some of the overseas holdings were released on the U.S. market, it could significantly impact the value of some coins....no idea if this is based on real knowledge or just theory. Cheers, RickO
Lot 140 now that is a cool story. Can a coin that prominent expensive find its way into an auction or even a slab? Or was its theft not that well-known?

$20 US gold pieces (100 coins per bag). Mint sealed and I actually made a deal for them that the
Head Cashier said okay on. When I transferred funds to do the deal the Bank VP said they would
not go through with it and I was just out of luck (Cashier lost his job over this!).
I remember that gold was about $180 or so at the time and my offer was well above that.
If I remember correctly it was spring of '75.
That was the first and only time I've seen a bag of sealed gold of any type or date.
I wonder if they still have them.....
So, I do know that overseas banks still have good stuff in their vaults.

I have read and heard stories about similar things, sort of like the 1970's GSA Hoards I suppose.
This is the only one however that I can conclusively trace to the Lord St. Oswald collection.
