A massive haul at the local Coinstar machine today!

I was at the local "Cloud 9" store today and decided to check the Coinstar machine. The reject slot was loaded with stuff.

$1.47 worth of perfectly good US coins (no silver).
$5.43 worth of Canadian coins including two $2 coins and one $1 coin (no silver)
One British 5 New Pence.
One washer.
One piece of junk metal.
One elongated cent.
Seven Chuck-E-Cheese tokens.
Five Aladdin's Castle tokens.
Five Detroit transit tokens.
One "No Cash Value" token.
One plastic "school money" Lincoln Memorial Cent.

I have to admit it felt odd taking all of this stuff out of the reject bin.
All glory is fleeting.

    Seven Chuck-e-Cheese tokens?

That's got to be worth at least 1 pizza, right?

I too feel odd whenever I pull anything out of the Coinstars, although I've only found a 1943-S 1c and a 1954-D 10c and a few cents here and there.

My daughter says that I embarrass her when I scavenge like that.

I can't understand why people just leave money sitting there.

Coinstars are like a coiny's box of Cracker Jacks, never know what the prize will be, I have no shame. Today I found a road kill cent in the tray, so mangled I didn't even realize it was a wheatie until I got home. Cool by my standards image

forgot to say nice haul image

I have trained my 3 and 4 year old to check
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!
  • I trained my son since he was 4 years old to run for the Coinstar as soon as we entered a store, too.

I was going to check the 'slot' at the supermarket the other day. I was using the self-checkout, buying only one item. It was a 7 minute nightmare and made me forget all about the coinstar.
    That's an amazing haul......

Fantastic haul....I have never found that much in one visit...... I think the largest haul I had was $1.97.... I did get a silver '57 Rosie a week or two ago.... in the beginning I was a bit self conscious about retrieving the coins...now it does not bother me. Cheers, RickO

I found my second 1947 Roosie this week just this morning. I also found a 1946-D Roosie for a total of three silver dimes this week.

Feel a little weird myself sometimes but it's when I check and bend to glance "under" the machine. That's when I feel the weirdest!image

  • I do that! When we walk into a grocery store I tell my wife "You know what I must do." And go to check the Coinstar. She is very understanding!
