How far would you go...

Once a month, I drive thirty minutes to wait in line for a ferry. I pay the toll, take a half hour boat ride, drive for another forty minutes in evening traffic in order to make it to a "local" coin club meeting. We talk coins, have raffle drawings, host auctions, and brings some collectibles for display. A general good time. Then its back home, just before midnight.

So the question is, where does coin collecting take you? What voyage have you taken to spend time with other collectors? Shows, clubs, shops...

I have gone to shows and shops... usually no more than thirty minutes drive....now, where I live, there are no shows, shops or clubs....Cheers, RickO

My local coin club is about 40 minutes away. It's once a month and worth the drive. We don't have raffles, we don't have auctions. Just nice dinner with people that really like coins.

In fact the club is promoted regularly on this board (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

I rode my bike up a mountain to see a fellow collector and purchase a flyer he was holding for me.

It wasn't a huge mountain, but it was a pretty good ride.

In the internet age, I wouldn't go very far for coins.

2 weeks ago I drove 8 hours to attend a coin show in Dalton VA.

Last weekend I drove 7 hours to set up at a show in Charlotte NC, made it home at 11:30pm sunday evening.

Drove 1.5 hours each way Monday evening to a Coin Club meeting in Winchester VA.

This weekend I'll drive 3 hours to attend a show in Gettysburg PA.

The weekend after that I'll drive 4 hours to attend a coin show in Fredericksburg VA....

I go to 3 local (100 miles) coin club shows a year. Winter FUN. Two STL shows a year. The Silver Dollar Show. Central States show every year. And the ANA when it is my area (Midwest).

I once took a 26 hour Bus ride to Jacksonville, stayed with my sister/brother-in-law and then drove to 3-4 hours to Orlando and roomed with MDWoods for two days. one of the best trips I ever took.
