Not sure what the definitive test would be to determine "contemporary" vs. "last week". Some makers seem to be pretty good at creating convincing artificial wear and aging...

Does not look like an older counterfeit.

"Wear" and surfaces too uniform and wrong look. Modern black "patina", partially rubbed off.

Agree with the above......hard to say, definitely counterfeit, whether of recent or contemporary ?????

I'm leaning toward a modern fake.

I would say "contemporary counterfeit" with the caveat that that could be as late as the 1930's.

1889-o and yes it was raw. Large die crack on reverse at 9:00 toward the center of the coin.

Looked like a cast fake to me. The mint mark was a blob that I suppose was an O, but it really wasn't distinct at all.
    When in doubt, don't.

I would love to see images of this item -- can anyone post them? Failing that, is there a way to retrieve images from a deleted e-Bay offering?

Wow! As far as counterfeits go I'm impressed. Let's give credit where credit is due, if that's a fake, someone is a genius and I'm getting scared.

I really wish people would capture the image and post it rather than, or in addition to, a link which "disappears" shortly after the thread starts.

Well, it had less than two hours to go so I really didn't think it would get nuked. If I knew how to capture

an image and post it here I would do so.
