At $1075 with 3 hours left, it's a bargain as well

Holy price tag! That's cool but not $1k + cool imo. Great artistry though! Mike Kittle had one I almost was forced to buy. It was a Morgan carved in the likeness of Jeff Daniels charcter "The Dude" from The Big Lebowski. Unfortunately I didn't see it until the last day of the show and already blew my wad, and then some.

Looked at his feedback, he has sold some other cool pieces. This one (other ones are much cooler IMO) sold for $2650! Slighty NSFW.

I saw this on reddit the other day. Didn't get around to posting it here.

There is an excellent market for high quality hobo nickel carvings. Especially pieces done on silver dollars. I figured it would go for at least $700 USD, and it has surpassed that and more. Could nearly double my estimate by the time it finishes today.

Why the back did I type Jeff Daniels. Strange. Thanks for the correction Eastside. I'm sure Mike's probably a member here, maybe he'll post it if he sees this thread, if he still has it.

    I like it a lot????

    My favorite show !
Too bad nobody has the brains to bring it back and make more episodes instead of the other drivel on TV.

I'm not entirely surprised by the final sale price. I can see why people would want/like it.

Wow, someone in Russia is really good at these. A Star Trek or Game of Thrones and Simpson theme could skyrocket. I wonder if it is something that they can computer program the lasers for and replicate easily or are they really one of a kind taking many hours to create?

Perhaps should have used a 40% silver coin instead...

I think that type of photo engraving is done by laser or computer-controlled milling/engraving machine. It isn't too difficult to convert the brightness of each "pixel" in a digital image into a depth (darker=deeper) and then cut to that depth. 3-D sculpted surfaces are more difficult to do than these which are mostly flat with intaglio-like engraving.

That is great work on the coin in the OP.... very nice. Not my field of interest, but impressive. Cheers, RickO

Are there any hobo $20 gold pieces out there?
  • CommemKingCommemKing Posts: 2,202 ✭✭✭✭✭
Its awesome for sure, but that's a hefty price.

I love the piece, but I wouldn't spend that much money. Though, I think it is good that there is a good market for this stuff, it will encourage making more of this kind of thing.

Just awesome! On the completed listings, I love the Alien and Winnie the Poo Hellraiser coins too!
