Spectacular Buffalo Nickel Collection

BigMooseBigMoose Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭
I just found out that the Angel Dee's Collection of Buffalo Nickels, probably the finest colorful/toned collection extant, is going to be sold as individual coins in the Legend December Regency Auction in Las Vegas. I have watched Andy Skrabalak put this collection together painstakingly over many years and have been trying to buy several individual coins from this set over the past several years. But, the collection was always for sale as a set only---until now! I just viewed each coin on the Angel Dee's website and it was a visual experience. I finally get a shot at several Buffalo Nickels that I've had my eye on for a long time!

    Best of luck.

Buffaloes that nice, and you better have one heck of a bankroll, as you likely will have competition.

These coins are ridiculous in person. I've had the pleasure of viewing the set twice if I remember correctly, once before it was complete and then once after. They slogged out every date/mm just like I did with the lincoln series, and some dates only come with ok but I don't remember a single coin that wasn't surprisingly beautiful. It's several boxes of monsters. I wish them a ton of luck in the sale.

I'd like my copper well done please!

I read the news too. Very exciting. The nickels are spectacular, agreed.

I hope Andy and Alynne have great success selling them. They are kind, generous, and thoughtful people and deserve it.

I've seen the collection twice, and it's unreal. It's too bad it will be broken up, but it will make plenty of people happy.

About the only collections so amazing and complete that they stayed together and will likely stay together would have been Eliasberg/Clapp and TDN's seated/trade/bust dollars. I know Legend was trying to sell the Simpson half dimes intact - with or w/o the 1870-s.

Let's hope there aren't too many 10% stinks bids on these Buffs.

Wow...although each coin is impressive on it's own, seeing the cohesive set together as a group is really impressive.

I have seen that set in person several times at Andy's table at big shows. It is truly BEAUTIFUL!!!

Every coin looks like a 38-D with beautiful color.

Andy is a great person to deal with or talk to about Buffalos -I think this set has evolved a bit since I looked at it. My recollection is some of the coins were in NGC holders. Great pair of eyes has led to a great set.

Some of those coins are amazing! I've just completed a simple date set of high color Buffs and that was a real challenge. To do a complete date-Mint set is an unimaginable accomplishment. Congrats!!

That 1925 is so buttery smooth. Love the set, particularly that single coin.

Unreal. So spectacular, the inclination is to look for weaknesses in individual pieces. Which is like trying to find weaknesses in Sandy Koufax's pitching.

Andy and Alynne are fabulous people and they have incredibly wonderful coins. This should be a heck of a sale.

According to the announcement on their website, it was not registered, however, if it was, the Basic set would be 4th.

Here is the full announcement for those that did not see it...

A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT FROM ANGEL DEE'S...

Everyone loves to collect something. Most coin dealers are collectors at heart and we love certain coins and series just as much as you do. We just take it to the extreme to do it more for a living than for just a hobby. As most of you probably know, we have been assembling the Angel Dee's Toned Buffalo Set for about 12 years. It started when we saw a number of beautifully toned Buffalo's being offered and just had to have them. We then thought it would be fun to see if we could get the highest graded TONED example for each date to complete a Basic set. We ended up with the Basic set of 64 pieces (which would currently rank #4 on the PCGS Set Registry if registered) and 3 of the varieties: 3 Leg, D/D and D/S. (We opted NOT to go for the all the varieties, as most do not come high grade AND toned and if we did find them, it would have made the set more expensive than it already is.) So we have finally decided to do what all the Buffalo collectors have asked us to do: BREAK UP THE SET so they could buy individual pieces! SO HERE WE GO...

We are pleased to announce that Legend Rare Coin Auctions will offer the set for sale in their Regency Auction XIX. This set is being broken up and every coin will be sold individually giving collectors the opportunity to bid on some of the most exquisitely toned Buffalo Nickels ever seen. The auction will take place on December 15 at The Venetian, Las Vegas in conjunction with the PCGS Members Only Show. The set is currently available for viewing online with photos on OUR website (individually AND the entire set) and will be coming soon to the Legend Rare Coin Auction site. For in-person viewing, the set will be available at the Legend Numismatics table beginning with the Long Beach Coin Expo September 7-10, continuing at the Whitman Baltimore Expo, November 3-5, then finally at the PCGS Members Only Show at the Venetian Las Vegas, December 14-15. Please contact us if you have any questions.
