I'm not very worried about ever getting banned from this forum since I'm pretty sure the Message System is broken anyway. image

    How would I know?

Never been banned outright from any show but I've been banned from buying a table at one show. There are a few shows I've taken the liberty of banning myself from: shows I will not attend under almost any circumstances.

Unless that show is a significant event like ANA, Baltimore or Long Beach, there is nothing worth losing sleep over. There are plenty of other coin shows you can patronize that would be happy to have you.

    Nope.

Never been banned from a shop nor a show.

I also haven't called anyone a thief without proof.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

As for coin shops I've only been sort of banned from one shop ever, but considering the circumstances and the crapiness of the said shop's inventory it's no sweat off my neck and the shop owner's unconditional loss.

That coin shop was a very small place located in one of the Bay Area's larger cities (the city that's home to the Bay Area's sole Six Flags theme park). One day years ago I casually walk into the shop and after of a few moments of the shop owner eyeballing me up and down I was impolitely and loudly told "get the efff out" and that I wasn't welcomed there because of who I was *probably* working with. Before I left I took a good look at his displayed inventory and I was in no way impressed with what I saw.

After a little investigating I figured out why all that happened. It turns out the shop owner had a very acrimonious relationship with another well known in dealer circles Bay Area dealer who is the same race and broadly the same ethnicity as me. That other dealer was already banned from that shop and based on looks and assumptions alone he assumed that I was related to that dealer or worked with him. We're not related and I don't work for him. Never have.

Last I checked that shop has bit the dust. Cue the sad trombone.

It amazes me to read that some coin customers don't know or care about ethics.

Rule number one, put your mind in gear before you put your mouth in motion. Think before you speak or in this case type.

It is best NOT to talk about someone's elese business.

Even in this case it is a very bad idea about talking your security proticol.

I have banned a coin shop from my shopping there. After I picked out the coins I wanted, he refused to sell them to me at the stated price saying I looked like I know what I was doing. After raising them higher, I politely declined. I have come to understand this is common practice with some dealers who are too stupid to even know what they are selling.

I did get even a bit on the way out though. He had some Morgan Compugrade slabs in the case and I asked what he wanted for the garbage coins in the garbage holders. I still laugh to this day thinking about what I paid for those, but will no longer shop there.

It seems like the show manager is breaking his contract; accepting money for services not delivered. You could go over their head and file a complaint with an industry oversight organization or one with the state; if there are enough complaints they may do something. Sometimes bad conduct really rankles me and I act on unethical conduct. One dealer I know somewhat has been defending questionable coin club management. I tried to search listings for the guy and have seen him doing business with major coins at shows, yet he is listed with none of the numismatic or state business organizations, nada. I reported him to the state as dealers doing major buying and selling are required to play by the state rules. I don't know if anything will come of it though I did get some contacts from the state oversight officer. It seems that dealers defending bad conduct have significant things to hide themselves.

I think it doesn't have to be one or the other. In other words, there is a large margin between, "unchallenged or untold" and what you (keets) did.

Even so, and with that stated, I don't believe keets deserved a ban from the show in its entirety. Too bad a middle ground could not have been brokered, perhaps between keets' employer and the show promoter.

image In addition, I would get some dealers who had tables to get together and ask the club (not the show chairman) holding the show, for a refund of the $900.

this is what we're hoping to do. perhaps other show attendees will speak up and persuade him to relent, but I am not holding my breath. remember, this is only a ban of me and not my Boss or anyone else.

we tried to resolve this in a few other ways but met resistance. when we joked about it at the show he got mad and refused to talk. when we tried a more serious approach we were ignored. when we asked for applications to join the sponsoring Coin Club we were repeatedly rebuked. only last month we had talked about just showing up at the Club monthly meeting, but we are about 50 miles away so that hasn't happened yet.

I still think 5 bucks a table, for whatever reason, is not enough to pursue this. It has now become personal, and it will only get worse if you all don't just move on.

This seems like a scenario that the saying, "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" was born from. Let it go.

"Cutting off the nose to spite the face" is an expression used to describe a needlessly self-destructive over-reaction to a problem: "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" is a warning against acting out of pique, or against pursuing revenge in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger.[1]

Keets, not sure who "Steve" is but I'll try and answer your question. First my earlier reply was kind of in jest.

I've been self-employed for at least 30 years. Sometimes when you're "right" you lose. Don't get the wrong idea, I've let customers go when they got to bothering my stomach. So in business I've learned to pick my battles as well as personally these days.

Yes, when someone like RR continues to come after me for it seems anything I say or do I'm going to say something back. As I've been around this hobby for a long time as well, and know a couple things.

This is your Job Keets, so it's all choices. If you don't care about it say what you feel. But eventually your boss is going to need someone else to do these shows if you can't. Me, I would again pick my battles.

I would pursue the $900 refund until the cows come home. There's a little matter of ethics and integrity here. Sorry if Mr. Show Organizer was caught with their hands in the cookie jar and didn't like being called out. Facts are facts.

Too funny. Now it looks like Mr. Show Organizer has reached into this forum and got the original thread banned too. image That would only make me more determined to pursue the issue.

I would probably push the boss to call him out. As an employee not my place really. Oh, on here I try not to go back and forth these days as I don't have the patience. Unless someone pushes it. I can't say what I want to on here. If I make the choice to do so...... I will not be able to come back here. So again, there is that "choices" word I like to use.

For those telling you to push it, I'm not going to do that. I believe we are around the same age and I'm sure you might be looking forward to retire, and not to be looking for a job at this point and time.

Not a coin show, but while in the Army, my friend was banned from a country.

He had too much to drink, had crossed the border to the neighboring country, and was refused service at a hmmm, house that provides services legal only in a few counties in Nevada.

Incensed, he came back with 2 tear gas grenades, but in his stupor, one was a thermite grenade, which caused said establishment to burn to the ground.

He fled back across the border, and the US Army decided he should not be in the area, so they shipped him back to the US of A.

Fortunately, there is no extradition but he is banned from that country for life.

$5 per table, per person, etc. adds up. The fact is it came to $900. That's not a trifle, no matter where it came from. It ended up in the promoter's pockets. Major corporations have paid multi-million dollar fines for a lot less than $5 per event. A 10% increase, for no additional service provided, is not a trifle. At a 50 table show, that's $250 per show that could be put back into the local club, YN's, etc.

I was thinking of this topic after speaking with a coin show manager whose show I hadn't attended in some time. It seems that he may be at least thinking of banning me until I resolve a little issue. One of the dealers who does his shows has a habit of selling raw coins at high prices based on his "grading"; I was stung a number of times, spoke with the dealer about it who said it was always the grading services that were arbitrary and untrustworthy. So in a pique of anger I reported the dealer to the state consumer protection agency which fielded my complaint. I'm not sure if anyone else here has reported bad behavior to a state agency. So the show manager wants me to somehow clear the record of the dealer and then make peace with the dealer; I wasn't aware we were at war....And frankly I thought the issue was resolved over a year ago. But the dealer I had the issue with has been telling all the dealers he knows how I did him wrong.... http://enidfirstassembly.com/w...tones_Main_Graphic.jpg

Oh, and mustangmanbob, Brothels are legal in 10 of the 13 Nevada counties. Not legal

in Reno (Washoe County), Las Vegas (Clark County) and Carson City (Carson City County,

previously Ormsby County).....but cross the county line from Reno and Carson into Lyon

and you're a happy man! With escort services rampant in Las Vegas, does not matter there

but if you want to drive up (north) to Pahrump and visit Smitty (on this forum) you can also partake in two Brothels there.

Brothels do make good neighbors and add to communities. They are welcomed by the

    locals (and visitors).

Heck the Bunny Ranch in Pahrump just this week announced they are giving 100 acres and

the water necessary for anyone in Pahrump to start a vegetable patch (at their expense).

This is to help the less fortunate and Veterans and elderly on fixed income supplant their diet.

I was once told to leave a Jiffy Lube or they'd call the police. They did a faulty oil change in which they didn't get the oil filter in tight and I got oil all over my garage floor. Thinking I had a serious problem with my car, I took it to a mechanic who told me the person who did the oil change didn't know how to screw in an oil filter. So I was at Jiffy Lube to get a refund for my oil change as they state a 100% guarantee. They refused to give me a refund and I refused to drop the issue in their store in front of their customers.

It takes a lot to get thrown out of a White Castle. You practically have to kill somebody or throw all your pickles from your burgers onto the frozen plate glass window creating a Green Monster in a matter of minutes. The pickles adhered to the glass like leeches. Maybe 900 pickles. We did not hear the screams of "stop or I'll call the cops" until well when the cops showed up. We specifically told the head chef at WC no pickles for our hamburger eating contest. So as you raced to eat your burger you ripped the pickles off the burger and tossed them on the window. There were perhaps 40-50 pickles hitting the glass at a time. It was like a ballet.

Somehow I was the one who took the fall....I was not the winner of the contest however. He would be Jim O'Sullivan. Sully ate 48 that night. Not his record. Later that night he also consumed two Little Caesars Large Pizza's. This was back in the day when nobody told you eating pizza, Taco Bell and White Castles all in the same day was bad for you. We thought those were the food groups

If I even look at a pretzel bun these days I get the stink eye from Tracy.

I bet I'll get banded as soon as I sit down at a table and say I'm going to cherry pick you. So I just don't say it and keep my lips zipped at shows or anywhere. But I never been banned from one I guess it can happen if you are counting cards as well but if you don't say you are doing it you will not be banned from the casino as well. image
