I had a few hours yesterday without the kids and was able to go to a few of my favorite B&M's and do a little shopping. Here are my pickups. I'm pretty happy with them. Let's see if you can guess what my out of pocket cost was.

I'm going with $21. I'm guessing maybe you some how picked these up for melt.

I wouldn't think that a B&M would sell an uncirculated 49-S Franklin for melt.
You'd be surprised. Most of the B&M shops around my area specialize in bullion and the only stuff they bother to sell graded are already in slab's. If it's not in a slab, it's raw 90% to them. I wen't to a few shops and some were true coin shops while other's were just the bullion dealers. I have pretty good relationships with the bullion dealers and they let me look through their stuff. I will usually pay a little more than melt for the privilege to cherrypick, which I don't mind at all. Funny thing is they all subscribe to the Grey Sheet as well, the info is at their finger tips.

You are the closest. I paid a total of $22.00 for these treasures. The '49-S Franklin's were $8.50 each, the '34 DDO Washington was $4.00 and the '70-D Washington was $1.00. I think I might go back to the shop where I got the Franklin, they had a '51-S that was FBL but it had a hit on one of the lines, I thought that that might keep it from going FBL. But, after looking at some of the PCGS graded FBL coins, I'm not so sure.

I'm trying to figure out why you wouldn't pay 8.50 for a BU '51 S Franklin ?
If you could humor an old timer, I would appreciate a picture of the reverse of the 1970 D. There are several different reverses including two that originally were proof only in 1968. I have found what dealers usually have is not what you usually find in circulation.

$8.50 each for the 49-S coins is quite the deal.
Thanks, I thought so too. They were in a bag of mixed Franklin's that had come in that morning.
I would think about buying the whole bag if they are any indication of what is in there!

If coin shops will sell you coins for a fraction of what they're worth, you should probably take a lot more than twenty some dollars when you go.
I usually do, but that particular shop is a hit or miss type of shop. More often than not, I walk out empty handed. Typically I have more cash on me, but this time around, I forgot how light I was.
It is what is now called a type G or RDV-007. (I originally used the term type M). It matches the majority of the proof 1968S coins. It is also the majority 1970D in mint sets. It is typically the most common 1970 D in dealer stocks. I think this came from cutting up mint sets for the 1970 D half. It is a minority of 1970 D in circulation. It also appeared on a few 1969 D and 1970 Philly quarters.

Thank you very much for the information. I checked your past thread about the reverses for this particular date and MM. I came to the conclusion but was not certain of it being a Type G reverse.
I have since listed and sold the 1970-D on eBay, essentially recouping my money for this entire purchase. I'm keeping the '49-S RPM Franklin for my collection, I feel it is the nicest of the two and the rest will be sold to buy other coins to add to my collection.

ya. i sold it as au quickly the next day. im into too many things for my budget to sit on some things some times.
constantly hopping from one foot to the other. like that cat in the room in cat's eye.
dig through boxes at shows and b.i.n. turn up nice scores consistently.
luster was minimal but super color/surfaces.

Nice job. I always flip the stuff I don't want for my collection and roll the profits into better stuff. I have some really nice coins for next to nothing.
