I have been looking for one of these for a long time!

This is a very low mintage gold dollar, 1600 plus 30 proofs. Not a rare coin because so many were saved back in the day. Subsequently, you can find lots of them in MS67 to 68 but the price is pretty steep at that level. So I wanted a nice MS65. Finally got this one for a reasonable price. I love the PL fields and cameo look.

Ordinarily not a fan of gold dollars, but that one could live here any time.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Also IMHO that obverse would by itself grade a lot higher than MS65. If in fact the scratches seen on the reverse blow up are on the coin and not the holder, I didn't realize PCGS would net grade like ANACS and/or some of the other Third Party Grading Services used to do, but it appears that is what they have done, unless their policy is to just assign the lower grade of either side.

I don't usually like the look of gold dollars but this one is splendid
Has the appearance of copper nickel coloration vs. yellow gold. Any thoughts on that assuming it's not just the lighting or photography?
scans, high-end, but scans nonetheless.
ive read/heard it allows them to process maddening amounts of coins with decent results all considered.
goodness only knows about the bulbs and settings.
in-hand, it would be closer to the large images. the scanner effect can unintentionally enhance pl-ish fields.
i do concur it is prettier in the full-slab shot due to the contrast but is somewhat artificial.
i'd take a whole set of g$1 just like this and die a happy numismatist.

old thread
is this destined for PL status now?
.
The pictures seem to indicate it has a chance at PL....Cheers, RickO
I can't believe it's not a proof...Yes, definitely send it in for PL.
If that 1880 has a chance at PL, I've got to think this one is a lock.

Both are beauties!
