Need help grading a couple IHCs

Would they be worth it ?? Came from an old collection out of a album - at least that's what seller told me . Anyway , opinions re welcome and appreciated .

Unfortunately they both look like they were cleaned and have started to re tone.

And that could very well be as im a paper money guy and have a hard time identifying cleaned coins . Well , I can identify blatantly obvious cleanings/polished coins . Just don't have the experience .

Look cleaned in the pictures. Diamonds are worn on each making them AU (ish) in my opinion.

Thx for the relies fellas . How do you guys identify a cleaning , well other than the blatantly obvious - at least for me that is . May actually be an "older" cleaning but if the seller didn't mes with'em which I doubt he did or would have time to - it would have to be at least a 20yr old cleaning from the actual consignor or earlier from his description . The 1865 is a beauty in hand and appears to have the nice colored album toning (as seller removed them from album upon consignment I was told) forming over an actual wood grain looking planchet . Also I could see no evidence of fine hairlines/scratches under magnification . Just curious and trying to educate myself guys .

Cleaned copper has a "look" that just isn't natural.

I don't doubt the coins have been (re)toning in an album, but they both have a dipped, washed-out look.

Copper can be tricky, but after you have looked at a lot of them, the messed-with ones just jump out at you.

I can scan a dealer's case and not even notice the cleaned/messed-with/recolored coins because I have trained my eyes and brain not to even spend 1/10 of a sec. looking at them. There are too many other coins to spend the valuable bourse time pursuing.

I am sure many others here are the same way.

They do look rather nice, despite the issue of originality of surfaces (or lack thereof).

Yes, probably best to pass on 'em, but I wouldn't hate 'em for an album set.

The coins you are showing appear to have no luster and the colors are splotchy. The colors have dramatic changes from circulated copper color to dark nearly black to rainbow and the surfaces are what many call dead. The surface doesn't swirl so to speak. The coins appear to have slight circulation and then somewhere along somebody thought it would be a good idea to strip the surface perhaps with chemicals.

Also a circulated copper coin would not naturally show rainbow colors. You could try to buy 5 or 6 rolls of copper from the bank and compare what you see. Looking through dealers inventory including eBay will help you begin learning what is acceptable for the market.
