Is this PVC damage????

I have never actually seen PVC damage on coins. Just got this from Teletrade. It matches all the descriptions and pics I have seen posted here. Just looking for additional confirmation from the crowd.
The color is the green of dish soap and lighter than verdigris found on copper.

Sure does look like it. How did it arrive? In a flip? Could also be ink. Would need a close up view.
  • I'd say yes. Oily green haze is the PVC residuals.

Yep! I'd say it's a PCV baby. I'd sell that puppy before it turns into a pumpkin.

I'm afraid that indeed looks to be PVC residue, with likely damage even if the stain were removed with acetone. Fortunately, Teletrade has a very liberal return policy, and if you speak to them before shipping and explain the prooblem, I'm sure they will not charge you for the return.
  • Just spoke with Brooke @ Teletrade. She was very cool about it. It's already in the bubble mailer to be sent back.

Maybe, but whoever consigned that coin will have to wait another couple of months to get any money - because they have to relist again.

Send to NGC and have them fix-it or replace it or buy it. NGC guarantees their work and do not slab PVC damaged coins - just like PCGS!
  • Rover, thanks for posting picture I didn't know what PVC looked like for sure, I saved scan for future reference.
Glad you are able to return for refund.
  • Python-your welcome. It was as much for my education as anybody else.

  • It does look like something is on that coin. It might be PVC. I put some of my loose pocket change in one of those coin purses made of plastic. The green plastic seems to come off on some of the coins. Wondering if I am exposing the coins to PVC?
