Reflections Antiques in North Carolina

It seems there are quite a few places that call themselves Reflections Antiques. This post is regarding the one in Goldsboro, NC (919-440-5729).

If you have any opportunity to deal with this guy. Run away. He does have a fairly large coin collection for sale but it became apparent quickly enough this guy was no good.

First he told me had an incredibly Morgan and Peace collection including coins like a amazing 1880-o MS66. As you can imagine ALL of these coins are graded by the alphabet soup of basement graders and the sad part....he thinks they are actually that grade. Come to find out he has been trying to sell this collection for years and he wants big money for them.

It gets worse.

He claims to have inherited an incredible collection from his Grandfather that included a fantastic set of coins. Oh but he left the coins at a "friends house" once and the friend's truck caught on fire and the entire house went ablaze and most of the collection was lost. He saved a few.

Guess what was in that collection in the fire? A 1804 Dollar? Yep but THAT was not the best coin.

He also had TWO 1873-s Seated Dollars.

WOW!

One was lost but he saved one of them.
Here are the pictures and the coin is for sale and I know I am breaking big news guys. Yes. A 1873-s Seated Dollar does exist. His Grandfather had two of them saved from assay and he has a brother who works for the Federal Reserve to authenticate it.

Takes all kinds. Once this guy came into my shop and haggled with me for fifteen minutes , it seemed. And what he had to sell me were 2 Krugerrands. Seemed forever negotiating a price to make him happy, and he got me to match the competition which was a percentage point higher than my first offer. So , I agreed to match my competitor's bid. "Now let me see the Krugerrands", I said.

This guy looks at me and says, "Well there's just a slight problem". I asked "What's that ? " He says, "Well they were on the back of my television and there was a fire and they melted into the television ". I didn't mean to laugh, but remember saying : "Oh sorry. I don't buy used televisions".

Thought I'd share a true story that happened to me.

Ha! I'm pretty sure the plastic housing on the television would melt long before the Krugrrands would. Since gold melts at 1,948 deg F, that would be one hot house fire. More likely they were made of chocolate.

That's the 1873-s seated dollar with the easily identified "funky 8."

I've seen the 1804 dollar too! It was a gift for the Sultan of Muscrat down in the Bayou.

I dare someone to call him tomorrow and try to negotiate a price, just to see where his head is.

I think this guy has called me prior before as well. Only about 45 min from me, claimed to have two high grade Unc buffalo's a 24-s and 26-s, but when he came in, they were polished vg's.

The "funky 8" is the scarcer variety. Much rarer than the "common" '73-S.
