Cracked all of these coins out. I think this gives them the best opportunity for an accurate grade, but it is riskier. Nothing earth shattering, but I was pleased. (sorry if images don't work, no preview function)
This was NGC MS66, still MS66

This was in an old rattler as MS66 but had developed a number of spots on the obv. So I cracked it and addressed them and it graded MS66 again

This was in a rattler as MS64 FB. I thought it looked better than that. graded MS65 FB. Was pleased.

This was an old rattler as MS64, had some haze on both sides. Gave it some acetone, graded MS64

This was in a rattler as MS65. Had some haze, so cleaned it up. Graded MS66.

This was an old ANACS as MS64 DMPL. I knew it would not be DM, but hoped it would be 64, came back 63PL which I think is correct. Showed it as a GTG and most of you agreed with 63 PL.

This is the one I was most happy with. Was in a newer PCGS holder as MS65. Had obverse toning that was almost terminal with 70% of the obverse impacted and it was ugly. Thought the underlying surfaces looked good so did some careful dipping of just the obv. Came back MS65+.

Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
I'd like to hear more about that! Did you mask the reverse somehow and dip the entire coin?

I probably wouldn't have bothered submitting the penny, nickel and quarter. Not worth the grading fees (to me). But you did well.
And I agree with you on cracking. You always get the fairest chances with raw coins.

"careful dipping of just the obv."

I have a nice flat sable hair paint brush with width about equal to the diameter of a dime. I dilute the dip to about 40% out of the jar and have it in a container on the sink along with a container of water.
I start the faucet and hold the coin next to the stream. I then gently 'paint' on the diluted solution and immediately place that side of the coin in the stream from the faucet. I let it run under there for a good deal of time and then place coin in large container of fresh water.
After 10 minutes I dump out the water for fresh water and repeat the process until I have results or will go no farther. After the last application I let it sit in several water baths where I cycle fresh water in several times.
Holding the coin at an angle when working on it allows you to work on just one side and rinse it without getting the dip on the opposite side.

I agree, and also not sure why you would crack the DMPL CC to have it go down a grade and lose the designation. Old holders were not anywhere as strict on DM coins as they are now. Good thing the 88-O went up.
I agree with the grade on the '84-CC Morgan, and don't think the small slip in grade from ANACS to PCGS is too bad, especially considering you got it TrueViewed.
Nice coins, and good work.
Interested to see a before picture of that 88-O Morgan if you have one handy that you're willing to share. The results sure are nice.
I submitted the 88 at CSNS and since both NGC and PCGS were there brought in all my old inserts from crack outs to have them removed from the population reports. So when they did I lost the number in my reg set. I looked at ebay and it still lists the sale but it was almost 3 years ago so no details or images remain.
I did find an auction image of it shortly after I bought it, and so I looked around last night. It must not have been Heritage, so I am still looking. If I find it, I will post it.
