Gee, thanks for that information, eBay.

Just take me to the damn categories, already. Why am I seeing THIS crap?
Oh, well. If you're going to force me through a page with an annoyingly staggered, Pinterest-style image array, I might as well read a little bit...
Oh, hey... here's some stuff I didn't know!
Oh, really? Huh. How 'bout that? Egypt, you say. Hmm.

The first coins date back to ancient Egypt in 650 B.C.

Hunt Down Rare Coins
eBay makes it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for, so you won’t have to check multiple coin shops for those hard-to-get pieces. The rarer the coin, the higher the value. Famous rare coins can sell for millions of dollars. Some of those in top demand include:
The Morgan Silver Dollar, which has a high liquidation rate.
Franklin Half Dollars, which are rare and high quality. Only 445 million Franklins were produced between 1950 and 1963, and they were the only ones ever made.
The $20 Gold Double Eagle, made from 96 percent troy ounce gold. The value of the $20 Gold Double Eagle varies with the price of gold.
Mercury dimes, made between 1936 and 1942, are among the most beautiful U.S. coins. These collectible coins are exceptionally rare and difficult to obtain.
Indian Head Gold Coins MS 62 Condition are popular among coin collectors, particularly the $2.50, $5 and $10 versions.

That's so incompetent that I thought you were joking until I clicked the link. But then it is Ebay after all.

Too bad they didn't mention that cleaned coins are worth much less in the Which coins are worth money? section.
I thought so.

I guess collectors aren't interested in Indian Head Gold Coins MS63 because they aren't the super popular MS62.
And how again are Franklin Halves rare???
See http://www.doubledimes.com for a free online reference for US twenty-cent pieces
Crap! Those high grade Franklins that I own from 1948 and 1949 must be counterfeits. Oh well, guess I'll have to toss them in the trash now.
That proves it! My suspicions about those '48-'49 Frankies being fake Patterns were correct after all!

Now that's some info I never knew before. I'll definitely keep that in mind the next time I attend a local coin show. Once I'm done cherry-picking those dealers Mercs, I'll be chuckling all the way to the bank.

If the coin isn't even dated 650 B.C., how does ebay know it's real?
Can you imagine how much business in coins ebay could do if they actually had some knowledge?
I knew it would happen.
A little knowledge is in short supply!
I'm off to the B&M to buy as many rare Franklin halves as I can from the 90% bucket!
HAHA, thats pretty funny!
That'd be pretty funny if it WERE dated "650 B.C."
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
is 96% gold a variety or mint error?
... As they slip into collections, old coins are becoming scarcer, making them a hotter commodity than ever among collectors.
A $5,000 coin costs about $600 to sell on eBay.
On Great Collections....... zip.
Hmmmmm.....lemme think...
Oh, so the stupidity still stands, huh?
Wow.
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
Just a little.

If that much wrong information was included in a 3rd grader's book report, it would receive a "D" from the teacher.
