Upon seeing that coin, I must confess that I involuntarily uttered a two-word phrase, the first word of which was "Holy".

    MAGNIFICENT COIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To me it appears MS. I realize that might be viewed as an odd statement, but keep in mind that the majority of TPG graded MS CBHs look AU to my eyes.

Actually, what Tom is saying makes a lot of sense. This coin is marvelous. I'm still looking for just one, as a type coin, and I want it to look exactly like this.

It actually has a touch of high point friction (toning rub) on eagle's brow and upper wing tips. A some toning missing on a couple curls and star points. Pretty minor stuff unless you're challenging for a 66 or higher grade. I'd love to get such a coin as a MS64/64+. I think it's actual grade is 65 or 66. Wonderful looking gem bust half.

I see what you mean but I'd like to see it with a loupe before making that determination.

GREAT doin with GREAT toning, Lance. Keep her forever. She is only 189 years old, and all doubts should require proof of any rub.
from your pictures I do not see any.

WOW! Appearance is superb - the colors are just amazing.

NOT a series that I collect, but, I do see a small amount of possible flat on the absolute highest points. Is this a result of strike/late die state in this series/date?

Thanks for all the nice comments!

The grade is 64+ and CAC agrees. But I struggle with MS grading on bust halves and I'm still learning. There is no sign of rub or abrasion and I can find only a few tiny tics. A different grade wouldn't have surprised me.

I didn't make it a GTG because the grade is in the filename so it would have been too obvious. The coin is also in Coinfacts with a TV image (though the color and contrast are a little off) and with links to two auctions; the 2nd is mine.

    Lance.
