I can agree that is a really nice coin...but why is it in the U.S. Coin Forum?
Because it was authorized by the US government to circulate as legal tender in the US until 1857.

I can agree that is a really nice coin...but why is it in the U.S. Coin Forum?
Because it was authorized by the US government to circulate as legal tender in the US until 1857.
There were definitely more 8 Reales circulating in the early days of this nation than actual US silver dollars.
In fact, if George Washington really did throw a "silver dollar" across Potomac in his younger days, it would have been an 8 Reales, since the first US silver dollar was not minted until 5 years prior to Washington's death.
