1955 Lincoln Shattered Die - Does this Qualify as a CUD?

Very late die state with a severe displaced field die break which really looks more like a CUD but it is in the middle of Lincoln's head rather than along the edge. CUD or just a displaced field die break?

To be considered a CUD, the rim must be involved.
Are you sure? I never saw this definition.....

I agree, that is not correct. While most cuds do involve the rim, it is not the definition. An interior cud is called a design cud.

Your coin has a die break on the shoulder as well.
A lot of 1955 Lincolns are just a big mess.
Cool though, thanks for showing it.
It looks high grade too, 65ish.

It IS the definition. I have collected error coins since the 1970's and it has always been an emphasis in the definition that the rim or edge MUST be involved. A so-called "Interior CUD" is called a Die Break.
I looked the definition up in several books and they ALL said the same thing, i.e. that the rim/edge must be involved. Here is the definition in the book The Design CUD by Paul Marvin & Arnold Margolis. (1st Printing, 1979, page 8).
"This definition eliminates all die chips and die cracks that have not developed into broken dies. It narrows the field down to those involving the edge of the die. The determining factor or course, is the "abnormally raised area" in deciding if a cracked die had developed into a broken die as in the case of some of our "Retained Cuds".
I can also provide other reference book definitions.
