    The "Buffalo" is now the official National mammal . I think it just happened this week . I'm happy about it!

    Well, this thread is even more important then. I love all the examples yet I will easily take Buddy over them all.

    I love the late die state with die cracks going across FIVE CENTS and the metal flow on the reverse at the buffalo's hind legs.

    As the 'National Mammal' the Buffalo should now also appear on currency...as it once did.

    There is a buffalo farm near here, which I pass often. Some really big fellows in the herd.

    Agreed ricko, the mint makes retro coinage, why can't the BEP make retro paper currency? I think that it would be a big hit! At least it would get people looking at a little scrutinizingly.

    When this design started production in 1913 I doubt there were many buffalos left.

    I'm a big fan of the buffalo nickel as well.



    Sometimes I think I ought to go back and do them again but this time in AU-58 to Gem. They were a lot of fun in Fair to Fine.
