But then I read something in another thread about taking a chance of the slab breaking.

Is this a real danger?

How does one ship a slab both safely and economically or is that an oxymoron?

Between cardboard in a bubble mailer is fine, I have sent and received them that way with no problems yet.

I ship with a Safe-T-Mailer and bubble envelope and haven't had any problems.

I have received almost two dozen slabs in bubble mailers, and not one was damaged. They have to be the best way to go considering both safety and economics.

When going through the rigors of the post office, bubble envelopes can lose their bubbles, and the paper can tear. I've had many slabs arrive damaged when shipped in a buble envelope alone.

So ditto the comments about additional protection.

Or if you want to use a padded envelope alone, the "Jiffy" style envelope (tough brown Kraft paper with the furry padding inside) provides much better protection. The price for that convenience is increased cost and weight.

I can tell you from experience about recieving coins here (in Norway). If the coins are shipped in a bubble mailer, maybe wrapped in paper or stapled between thin cardboard.. then the USP reading machinces don't damage them!
You have to remeber ... the post office machines past "letters", or that size through a machine. That will absolutely crack a slab!

I have received many coins in bubble mailers with ZERO problems.

I received a bubble mailer package that was supposed to have a coin in it... it had been removed. Seller made good on it though..... Cheers, RickO

I've found this place to have inexpensive mailers

Be sure to specify the WHITE 4x8's

I usally wrap the slab in back half of an old bubble mailer and insert that into a new bubble mailer, for double bubble protection.

I'll throw 1 slab in a bubble mailer without worring but if it's 2 or more I wrap bubble wrap around them to keep them from moving around in the mailer & crunching together.
