A new buffalo nickel for my collection. It's a keeper

crazyhounddogcrazyhounddog Posts: 14,149 ✭✭✭✭✭
I ran across this 1921 Buff one day with not so nice images, didn't show the color. They were a scans. So, I downloaded them to my photo album and enhanced them a bit. When I did that I could see a hint of color so I took a chance. I gotta say I didn't expect this coin to look this nice. I'm very happy I took the plunge.
Thanks for looking and happy hunting, Joe

Usually I get the opposite result when purchasing from scans. That one is a beauty.

    Thanks,
It does have a few spots I'm not so excited about but the luster and eye appeal in my opinion is very nice for the 64 grade assigned. I'm also wild about the date. This 21 is housed in an old NGC fatty and the slab itself is in super good condition. It's my mothers birth year and with Mother's day tomorrow this coin means a little more to me.
Here's my other 21.....You've more than likely seen this one before. I owned it for several years and I've never seen a prettier one. I feel it's thee most beautiful 21 on the planet. I purchased this coin from, Angel Dee's, Andy. This man has the most beautiful buffalo nickel inventory around.
    Thanks again my friend.

I have said it before.... I just do not understand how Buffs achieve this level of tarnish.

I have many, many Buffs.... I have them slabbed and raw... I have some stored in wooden coin cabinets, some with felt lining....I have some in envelopes....None have even a hint of tarnish.

That being said, I do know how to achieve this appearance...Cheers, RickO

That is a real beauty. I would be curious to see the scanned pictures before you enhanced them.

So, just because you can't reproduce the toning style of some buffs, they must surely be AT?

Pretty bold claim you're making. Perhaps I'm reading too far into it.

Toning is not only created by the medium by which it is stored, but the environment/climate as well.

Nothin' beats that second 1921 you show Joe. That's about the nicest toned Buff I've ever seen.
