Sometimes our host gets it wrong (label insert)

I was doing my usual looking around and saw this good looking 3CN. Perhaps the labeling/holdering of this coin was finished up at closing time on a Friday...some time ago based on the solid gasket. CAC thought it was a nice one as well.

Didn't notice the '84 is proof....at least appears so. Still a big price variation between the 2.
I guess this is one of the reasons the say buy the coin, not the holder.

Even though I am a total fan of CAC, this casts some shade on them big time!

buy the coin, not the holder
In this case the holder is worth more by the Price Guide.

i tend to agree...it seems like this coin would have been a red sticker with a note about the date!
now, it's pretty ambiguous. was the coin stickered...or the label?
i believe the coin was examined and approved based on the grade. they just missed the mechanical error.
it does not qualify as it is not a ms coin as the slab indicates , this is a joke or mix up somehow.
does an image exist elsewhere of the coin?
looks to be some photo shop play to me.

Very strange, on ebay, the slab pic is a 1884 while the closeup is a 1875.
Yes. It's like the ebay seller photo shopped the wrong coin into the ebay listing full slab images.
It is fixed now on eBay. This means the seller is photoshopping 2 images together. A nice one of the slab and then a nice one of the coin and combine. Now we know how to take really nice full slab shots. Never thought of that myself.
CAC is off the hook, which is nice to know!!

Makes me wonder what other coins are "photoshopped" this way, out there.
It's the surefire way to eliminate slab glare while lighting up the coin.

Lance.
It doesn't surprise me that they would overlook the date mismatch.
Wabbit was correct ! This is what I believe happened.
David Lawrence posted several slabbed coins on Ebay.
One coin was this
Another coin was this
They photoshoped an image of the slabbed coin & inserted it on the
front of the slab for a clear image.
When they did this they mistakenly placed the wrong coin on the
1875 slab.
PCGS did not make a mistake. CAC did not make a mistake.
It was not a mechanical error.
It was a simple error while presenting it on Ebay.
Can we put it to rest ???
