I think I may have found myself a cameo Franklin...

It's been a while since I've seen one in the wild. I found this flatpack at a local shop today... Through the cellophane, I thought it had a shot at cameo. It has some haze and light golden tone. The reverse sure has a strong contrast. When I cut it out it became a bit more obvious... Maybe too much frost break on the obverse for our hosts to grade it cameo? I haven't dipped it or messed with it at all, just cut it out and shot it. I'll try to update this when I get around to dipping it. The dots on Ben's head is tarnish, not frost break.

A whole lot of fun for $19bucks.

Yes, I think that is a "cameo" for sure.
Looks like a "milk spot" on the "TR".
For some reason, early die strikes ("cameos") from that era seem to have that problem more often than later non-cameo strikes.

Once you take some of that brown haze off, it will go Cameo. That particular date has to go high to be worth anything as I am sure you know. Even in 68, they sell for less than $150. Seems crazy.

They're getting tougher and tougher to find out in the wild. Just a few weeks ago, I went through about 25 1959 Proof sets with only maybe a dime having any meaningful cameo. Half of those sets were still sealed when I bought them.

Yeah, it's likely not a big money winner or anything but it reminds me just how cool these look when they're frosty.

So that milkspot on the obverse is likely there to stay?

It's quite nice after the dip, looks like it will make cameo.

I'm a little surprised the milk spot between T R still remains even after the dip.

I was pretty cautious. 50/50 solution and only a quick dip... I don't want to mess up the coin.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

Half Ez-Zest, half water for about 8 seconds and then I rinsed the heck out of it.

That one was begging for a dip!

IMHO it is pretty rare to overdip cameo proof silver. You can give them a full 10 seconds in undilute dip w/o ill effect in my experience.

    Great find.

I would be thrilled to find one like that in a set. image

    Nice pickup!

Glad to see you can still find dcams in the wild. I haven't found one in years.
