1869 Nickel Pattern 5c
Judd-683
Low R.7
PCGS PR64CAM
It's a coin I picked up raw recently that had been tucked away in a private collection since the 80's. It appears to be the first of this variety to be designated Cameo so that is pretty cool.

Very cool. The reverse design is terrific...they should have used it.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
P.S. The obverse design is no slouch either. Haha

is/was conservation considered? fields appear dusty/hazy.
gr8 coin though, obviously.
that star below liberty is too much.
gotta love the creative process and the anomalies it yields. heh
gratz btw
those trueviews are still my fav. the over-exposed diffused have a purpose, just not for every coin.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but don't want to go to numismatic H-E-double-hockey-sticks
I LOVE the coin as is, but I'll bet if conserved by the pros, that thing would be SCREAMING WITH CHARISMA

The obverse really isn't hazy but the reverse is slightly hazy. I think the pictures overexaggerate this though.
I didn't really know you could conserve a proof coin like this made out of nickel besides just using acetone (which wouldn't get rid of the hazing). But I don't think it would be worth it if the conservation got rid of the nice natural blue toning.

I agree...however someone is insistent that the stars are to be returned in one of the latest conceptions of "modern coinage";
"The above images were recommended by the committee for use on the 2017 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin. A U.S. Mint press release points out that Liberty is depicted wearing a crown of stars, a nod to the Statue of Freedom atop the U. S. Capitol. The eagle on the reverse is described as “bold and powerful….with eyes toward opportunity and a determination to attain it.”

I don't like the obverse myself, the reverse Eagle can stay.

Every one of these I have seen has been weakly struck through the center of the reverse, which leads me to believe that the Mint determined the design to be impractical.

didnt consider this has blue toning. i figured that coloration was from the reflective fields as they can often appear bluish in images.
must be a stunner in-hand.
