    A very pretty coin.

I gotta go with AU58 - That first image really shows off the luster though!

I'm in the AU55-58 camp! Nice coin for the date.

I'm in at AU55 - AU58. It is a really nice tough coin. I just see a little break in the luster on Liberty's belly going into the shield as well as down her knee. The eagle's breast feathers show a hint of rub as well.

XF45 to AU 50. Far too much wear to be graded higher imo. The two pics make the images look like two different coins.

The top image makes it look MS62, in my opinion. Very nice coin. Typical strike for the date. Let us know how she grades.
  • rheddenrhedden Posts: 6,632 ✭✭✭✭✭
Based on the photos, it could be an MS62 with a soft strike, a wholesome AU55-58, or even a cleaned XF-AU with obvious wear. I think I am seeing full luster and a soft strike, rather than wear, so I will go with MS62 as well. It's perfectly reasonable that someone else would guess XF-AU because of the challenges of grading from photos with the "soft strike or wear?" question lurking.

A lot of people are going to be skeptical about this coin until they see it in a holder. An AU-Unc. looking 1927-s quarter is an obvious coin to send in for grading due to the high value and large price jumps between grades. It's unlikely to be problem-free, unless it's a completely fresh discovery.

The photo on top makes it look like an AU-58. The second photo looks more like an AU-53 or 55.

58 luster, downgraded to 55 due to the strike....hopefully it's legit and not an added mint mark or anything.

Grade revealed in first post. A tough series to grade, for sure.
100% original and discovered in the "wild", described as an XF.
Strike is typical for the date & mint, and pcgs has only graded 11 FH examples. If it was a 27 philly, probably a 62 at best. There are some 64 graded examples with what I call "pancake head".
MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Strange how your photo showed a flat knee, but the Truview shows a rounded knee....and buying it as an XF - wow - nice score indeed!

Am I really the only one who saw this as a true UNC? It seems allot of folks confuse a typical weak strike for wear.
  • WalkerfanWalkerfan Posts: 9,763 ✭✭✭✭✭
That's amazing........I, too, thought that I saw some rub on that knee.

    HUGE score---congrats!

    Very Nice. Great pick-up.

    The knee had me, too.

    Plus the rivets on shield.

Weak strikes vs wear, always tough.
