I cherish my autographed copy of that. I met David in 1991, after writing him as sternly worded a letter as I could muster as a 13 year old. I told him that slabbing colonial coins was like destroying the rainforests, enumerating the reasons why grading colonial coins would ruin that market. The letter got published in Coin World and a few other places.
David wrote back a very kind letter, noting that he had folks on staff (including Gordie Wrubel, who's back working there after a short time working with me in Wolfeboro 15 years ago) who knew and loved colonials, and that he thought it would turn out just fine.
Someone introduced David and I at the summer ANA in 1991, and he couldn't have been nicer. He gave me a copy of this book and signed it "From one heartless capitalist to another." I'd like to say we've been friends ever since. It lived on my desk the whole time I worked for Collectors Universe in my Bowers and Merena days.
Someday I'll write a blog entry about whether my juvenile prediction was true or not ...

I knew what book it would be before opening this thread. I like the book; however, the market predictions turned out to be very wrong.
What were the predictions ?
It is very difficult to weigh a colonial in a slab, oh well, there's no registry of weights...yet!

The overall coin market would continue going up, with the exception of ultra-rarities. In reality, the coin market crashed and ultra-rarities have out performed the overall market. In fairness though, I believe the book did say the probability of a market crash was something like 10%.
