Its sad new when anyone dies.

NO ONE deserves more respect than Veterans that put their lives on the line that die each and every day!

Why is it that when a famous person passes away it makes the news, but when a common defender of our freedom pass little if any is said?

Wow that is sad. I was never into his music that much when I was younger but my GF at the time, now wife and some friends got tickets to see him in the mid 80s in Tallahassee and I must say..it was one of the more energy filled and great performances I have seen to date. I did not expect that before going. He was a special talent.

Sad but true. Famous people get more press than the "common soldier".

That is what fame is - being well known.

In the US about 6,600 people die everyday (161,000 worldwide).

I assume 90% of those are good people.
They were somebody's relative or friend. Those deaths are mourned by the people who knew them.

With a famous person, people just kind of go "Oh" as a passing thought.

No, I would guess the flu and dehydration contributed to his death. Hopefully, his religion comforted him in death.

Yes, George Harrisons son looks a lot like him. I watched a special tribute to George Harrison that was done shortly after his death. There were some greats on that stage. I really like the Weeping Guitar song and Horse to Water.

I certainly get that point and often wonder about the millions of people that die every day when I hear about a big deal being made of a celebrity death.

Although I think it is important to note that music has a way of touching people's lives in a way that no other media can. Also, through the power of mass media he was able to touch hundreds of Millions of lives around the world.

I am kind of a neighbor of Princes. I live in a neighboring suburb, less than ten miles away from him. I have driven by his place many times without realizing it. I am not surprised that his death is huge news in the Twin Cities, but I have been very surprised by the level of National and International attention. At the gym tonight it seemed all the news networks were talking about Prince. I drove by Paisley Park on the way home tonight, and saw lots of satellite trucks. I understand there were reporters there from as far away as Japan.

Based on other things I've read, those two things are likely. I didn't say definitively. Is the truth THAT hard to handle?

I wasn't a fan of his or his music so I'm pretty much indifferent to his passing. I guess that makes me a flawed human.

Either of the stated reasons you gave for his death are (at this point) 100% rumor/conjecture, and 0% truth.

Well he was treated for an OD. Neither may be a sole COD, but could likely be major contributors.

Most with AIDS, especially the well to do, do not die from it in this country. The drugs are very effective in turning it into a chronic but not fatal disease.
Statistically, an OD is near the top of the list however.

Why speculate when we have an autopsy being done today?

It's not that I'm a Prince fan, I just don't think anyone should jump to conclusions when we are likely to get the facts soon.

I believe the autopsy will probably show that he died of "excess" in some shape or form, what other explanation is there for an otherwise healthy, reclusive 57-year old man to be found dead?? I'm reminded of what we used to tell each other when I was younger --- "Burnin' the candle at both ends, twice the light in half the time."

Sure. According to his death certificate, Elvis died of heart failure while straining at stool

Opiates cause constipation and Elvis was on the toilet with a rock hard softball sized stool that he couldn't get out.

It happens more than you think with drug abusers.
