Interesting that you would say that. The coin has a pretty neat mirrored surface and matte looking devices. Definitely an interesting buff...
Connecticoin, it was in an MS66 holder (older, 7 digit, scuffed up). I cracked it out since I was sending in some raw coins and figure I might as well send it in to regrade/get a new holder.
Nice looking Buff.... is the tarnish true to the picture? Or is it a photographic quality?
Cheers, RickO
Rick the tarnish is exactly like that (good or bad)...it was a real tough coin to image in terms of capturing the in-hand look. Problem is the coin is actually much more reflective in terms of surfaces and it created super bright hot spots (like by the nose of Indian) which made it hard to capture the look without having the coin look like a bright star. Look at the neck of the indian and around his headdress... you'll see what I mean. Anyhow, color is exactly as is but the surfaces are more mirrored (but I couldn't quite capture them...I don't know how to image PL coins yet, capturing the PL look but not killing the rest of the coin).

Looks proofy proof without being a proof.

to me
this is one of those buff's that has a "molten aspect" to it's patina
nickel being the hardest coins coined at the mint
some of them the actual planchets & dies heated up
to where some buffs do
have melted looking patina as well as a ripping look to their flow lines
add color like on this example
makes for a sweet buff
congrats
Although I consider it NOT a 100% full strike or even a "full" strike, due to the very late die state.
MS-66.
I like the idea of asking for random thoughts. Looses things up.
If you say that it was tough to image, that says a lot.
I like all the color and different textures.
Would be nice to see it in person to get a look at the reflective surfaces you describe.
