Half Cent grade?

It has been a while since I have been here. I don't know this series. I am leaning towards Fine. Is that correct? Thanks.

Thanks. When the coin is porous how much does it affect value? I bought this from an ad in Coins Magazine back in 1980.

Interesting...there are elements that suggest VF, but other areas that are nearly obliterated....strike, planchet, or filled die issues? Some sort of net grade would need
to be applied, for both the details and the (minor, in my opinion) surface issues. I would
give it a gentle brushing with Blue Ribbon, which I think will improve the surface appearance.

Looks like a F18 which would be netted to a 12 or 15.

The 1807 often has a weak looking strike. I suspect this coin has had the same amount of wear as a strong strike coin that would look like the expected VF at this point. A weak 1807 may never pass through a VF looking stage as the wear progresses. It might skip from a mushy EF to a mushy VF which would be considered a Fine like this one.

Have seen some that had AU-50 frost that were in EF-45 holders. But the hair detail was just too mushy to pay the price which was usually AU money or more.

Can't tell for certain if there is much porosity or just a bit dirty. I think Walkerguy21D is right that a gentle brushing with Blue Ribbon could improve the surface appearance.

Wonder what kind of EAC grade it would merit. Could be anywhere from VG-7 to F-15.

My grade is VF details, net Fine 15 for the minor problems. Nice looking copper!

Fine sharpness, but the value of a VG because of the late die state and minor environmental issues. Some of the "porous surfaces" on the obverse are due to die fatigue and rust, which would not lower the grade. The weak legend on the reverse are an "as made" situation, but it still makes the coin harder to sell, which translates to a lower price.
