Was walking the floor at a local show on Sunday and a dealer offered me a small group of tokens.... for $10 bucks I think I picked up a winner....

What do you think?

I am not "token" or "medal" collector, but I would have taken that deal as well! I can see that this is your item of interest, but, what else did you acquire in this group?

Your image doesn't do it any justice, since this would ordinarily have proof-like surfaces. But I'll give ya Twenny bucks for it right now so you can double up. image

BTW, there are multiple obverse/reverse combinations listed in Julian with the Paquet design bust of G.W. Which reverse is on this one ?

These are ridiculously over-priced by most eBay sellers in the last couple years, but a gem example of this should be practically worth $100-$150.

I chuckle when I see these priced in the $200-$300+ fixed price listings.

I recently paid $100 for an Unc. w/blank reverse, which I believe was intended to be struck with the Great Central Fair design.

Many of these didn't survive well, as the size made them an easy choice for a pocket piece.

Don't have my copy of Julian or Rulau on hand, but this combo is one of the more common, readily available die pairs.

The medal in this link is my favorite of the early 20mm Washington medalets.

    This one made by Bale.

Was it holed and plugged at 12 oclock on obverse?

Just as a sideline, that same wreath was used by the Mint for the 1942 Experimental cent reverse dies.

Most of them are known in various forms of "plastic," but I got to handle two of them struck on zinc-coated steel planchets the other day.

I like it. I've always liked Washington and Lincoln medals.

Edited to add...I don't see how you tell it was holed based on these pics?

Nice find... it does, however, look holed and plugged... Cheers, RickO
