Some may call this a 'widget'.....

WalkerfanWalkerfan Posts: 9,748 ✭✭✭✭✭
The 1944 P coins do not always come very sharply struck up and many are soft. Some can be lackluster, as well. Finding one that is crystal clear will cost you a lot of $$$. So widget? Maybe. But I like this one's strike a lot and the luster, too. The only thing that I see are some very minute wispy lines in the right facing field likely limiting the grade but they are tiny. Also, continuing my obsessive/compulsive addiction of trying to pick up and save decent OGHs, whenever I see them. I must also say that I rather like playing in the shallow end of the pool for a change, as the risk is low, but I like the potential rewards. Ten years ago this coin was selling for three times it's current retail value. And, if nothing else, it sure is FUN. image

What do you think?

    I think it's a great looking coin.

Very nice - I'd say it should be a lock 5, even with a few wispy lines, and you probably found in a 4 holder. The reverse look 6+, but we know the weighting is
    on the obverse.

I agree, it has got a pretty good strike for a 1944.

That is a nice looking coin. What is the grade?

66's are reasonable , but there is a big jump in price to 67.

While I am a 19th century coin guy, I wanted a 1944 half because that is the year was my parents were married. I bought a nice 66 at a good price which I later CACed.

That looks to me like one of those "Cool Coins" that someone likes to blog about.

It has that frosty Walker luster, the skirt lines are about as clean and full as they come, and that thumb looks like she could poke your eye out with it ! ! !

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

A few minor hits on the obverse but dripping in luster and a great strike.

I don't know the series well enough to know which dates are often weakly struck.

I do know that lustrous Walkers really catch my eye, like yours.

The WHL was the end of an era of beautiful coins. I remember worn, circulated ones in my parent's change purse. I didn't get to keep many...they were much too valuable. But I still lusted for them.

That's a nice coin, great thumb, skirt line AND eagle leg and breast feathers! I was looking for decent MS-66's for quite awhile for that date. Like you said, not too many came out with decent strikes. It made me wonder if some were just 44-S pieces with the mintmark polished off, haha!

Wonder if the late date MS-66's will come down any more? It seems like some dates have held steady, while others keep slipping.

I like this coin quite a bit. It has good thumb separation, really clean fields and appears to have intact, rolling luster. The color is reminiscent of silver coins that were saved in paper rolls for years, so this coin might have been from a roll. Those marks on the viewer's right of the obverse look to be extremely shallow and might better be described as luster grazes. This is a cool coin.

A 66 walker is a sight to behold, regardless of the date. That appears to be deserving of the grade.
MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.

Definitely no widget! Beautiful 1944 WLH 50c.

IDK what Cuckoo Bird invented the term widget but it is inherently insulting to collectors. All coins in a collection add up whether a coin you have 10c in or $10000 in. Heck I just broke out a 1969-S PR Set for my budget material JB and these are some nice coins.

    Erik--that is also a super 1944 P MS 66.

Do you still own and/or are you working on your 1934-1947 short set.
