Forum Software

As I posted in another thread we are really embarrassed by the quality of this forum software. We upgraded to their 'latest and greatest' and it sucks.

We are actively looking into replacing this software with something that actually works and includes most of the features you would expect in 2016!

This can't happen overnight. Please hang in there.

thanks

It isn't great but it is alot better then the old software was. I'm still content it was updated finally.

I'm okay with most everything except the search function, which is a pretty big deal to a lot of us. Also, I'd like to be able to PM photos again.

Thanks for letting us know PCGS is looking for something better, Don. We'll hang in there.

    Don,

Thanks for your comment regarding the NEW forum software. I agree that the FUSETALK upgrade was really a downgrade as far as user communication via the forums is concerned. COMMUNICATION with the users on these forums is VERY important in my opinion, especially on topics that collectors club members and dealers are concerned about regarding PCGS. My thread today regarding COIN FACTS REFUNDS resulted in an immediate response from customer service which I have no doubt was the result of you reading my thread. Perhaps, in this case, a similar thread from YOU back on February 3rd in this coin forum would have eleviated all the calls and emails that customer service has to answer. Again. thanks for commenting on the Forum software. Steveimage

It seems to be settled down now. Would hate to replace this software and experience the turmoil all over again.

Considering the resources that PCGS provides (and pays for!) to make these Forum's possible, they are a tremendous self-less service to the numismatic community! image

Hi Don! No worries here. I, for one, am very grateful to PCGS for the FREE Forum which I truly enjoy and also for the now FREE CoinFacts (which I've subscribed to for years). I don't post nearly as often as most (1k in 10 years) BUT I visit several times daily and read and learn.

I am a loyal customer of PCGS and I feel that you reciprocate that loyalty by providing me with a host of benefits. This is how a good business SHOULD work and is no doubt a large part of the reason that PCGS is the undisputed leading TPG in the business.

THANK YOU to you Don, to David Hall, and to all at PCGS who make this a terrific hub and resource for us. However you guys decide to tweak things, there will always be complaints but the vast MAJORITY truly appreciate your efforts. As for me, I like it just fine right now.

Wow, I'm pretty impressed with Don's post here BUT....

A huge reason for going with the same company was to try to make

everyone (or at least as many as possible) happy by keeping

everyone's post counts, PMs/Message history, titles, etc etc. It is commendable

to have done this. You and your team should be applauded for taking

this route. Without setting up a test server environment and investing a ton

of man hours into testing, you really had no way to know.

I am used to it at this point and have been able to make it work for me.

The major bug for myself is not being able to post an image within a PM

so I just link to it. It's a work around. Others have had many more challenges though.

I appreciate the efforts by you and your team. Thank you for what we do have!

Cool. These things ain't cheap and I'm pleased to know that PCGS recognizes the value of the forum. Change is always hard, but I have no doubts that things will end up better.

The major issue for me was the inability to post in a WYSIWYG fashion.

    Having to insert < p="" /> or < br="" /> to get a line break was horrible.
But that seems to have been fixed (for me at least) recently.

I'm sure this type of software is not cheap, and the fact that PCGS makes it available speaks highly of the company.

I've found it to be inconvenient to not be able to post an image/images in PM's. For anyone who has previously or does now conduct some confidential correspondence with other members, this is a critical point. The old Fusetalk software afforded that ability.

I don't see any issues with the current forum software. The bugs that existed with the changeover seem to have all been fixed.

Great news - with regards to the search function, it's embarrassing to start a thread when you can't really check to see if it's already been covered. image

Don't blame the search function just because you are having trouble remembering things these days image

I almost never check the coin side of the street, mostly 'cause I'm not into coins at all. Still wander in from time to time, though. Glad I did in this case.

Don, appreciate the candor. It's nice to know we're not alone in feeling frustrated with the new forum software. To be quite honest, I'd even welcome going back to the old software. I Know that's not going to happen, but knowing that this current software is being addressed is nice.

The only problems that I have had since the new software came out is I can't figure out how to post a photo in a PM even though I can post it in a regular Forum Post and the a-/a+ buttons don't work for me in the upper RH corner.
