There have been alot of fraudulent sales that have been popping up on ebay over the last 3 weeks in the NR certified coin selections.

This particular one made me laugh out loud for how many telltale signs this auction is fraudulent!

I think that you should elaborate on the telltale signs of "fraudulent." It does look as if the coin in the picture is not the same one that is in the slab.

A possible shill bidder, for sure...but by 'fraudulent' I presume you mean that the auction itself is deceptive?

looks like the same coin to me based on contact marks. didnt study it long though.

what are the signs im missing besides only having one listed coin and absolutely no other coin selling feedback or feedback in general for months.

does toolhaus show something?

Bill I think it is the same coin as there are dings in all of the coin images and the slab images that match(?). So I am confused to about what is fraudulent.

There is a Trueview of the coin, and it is quite evident that the photos of the raw coin show the same coin as the Trueview. See the cuts in the D in DOLLARS and below the T in LIBERTY.

looks like the same coin to me based on contact marks. didnt study it long though.

Look at all the contanct marks above the eagle's wing on the reverse of the "raw" coin and compare them to the one in the slab. Maybe it's because of the size of the slab picture, but I can't say that for sure.

This coin is currently being offered by Avenue coin. His description was copied directly from them as well, which mentions avenue coin in the description.

Someone tried to sell a cheerios sacagawea (my coin, in my inventory , with a history ) on ebay, a few months back as i recall. It was brought to my attention here. Scumbags abound. The world of criminal activity is just an IP address away

Hijacked account. Who cares what the images indicate ? eBay should be able to easily determine that the listing was generated from a different IP address than the one belonging to the registered member whose account is hijacked. I'd wager that the IP address of the hijacker isn't even in the same state. As zas107 has claimed, the coin is in inventory of Avenue Coin, Inc. which is located in Stockton CA. Doubt that they would ever memo or consign a rare coin to a seller in Texas.

Has anyone contacted Avenue Coin, Inc. to ask them about this, or confirm that the seller has no connection ?

It should have been identified as a hijacked account from the beginning as the scam. This is one of many reasons why I have nothing to do with flea-Bay. It's one scam after another.

There have always been fraudulent sellers on Ebay. They have been around since Ebay was started in the late 1990s.

As some have stated hijacked and stolen images were the beginning.

Using another ebay name in the title and description is another.

THe coin and slab are good.

Over the last 3 weeks I have seen over 20 hijacked/stolen images which is alot.

Over the last year it was probably 20 over the whole year.

Of just users with 0% feedback and using stolen images I must have seen 10 this month

If eBay really wanted to be proactive, and really cared about stemming the tide of hijackers, they would have already offered a convenient app. to sellers for watermarking images that would only be available by subscription with payment only allowed by a vetted credit card account.

When an online auction company approaches 10 million listings per day proactive is not in their vocabulary as it certainly is not in eBay's.

You can be assured eBay would be proactive if they want the revenue from selling a watermark app. Everything they do is motivated by corporate greed.

with them kind of prices i surely wouldnt be spending it on ebay. id find a more reputable dealer first.

Ebay is far better than it was 15 years ago. Ebay didn't used to host auction photos and Ebay didn't require photos. If a seller wanted to include a photo, the seller had to use a third party image host and include the links in the auction. What often happened is some sellers would delete the photo from their photo hosting location after the auction had closed. You'd receive your coin and there would be no working picture on the auction to compare. I learned to save auction pictures to my harddrive when I won them so I could be sure to have the picture to compare on delivery.

Because if eBay automatically added a watermark without verifying that the image belonged to the registered user name, then any hijacker could still insert stolen images, which is how most account hijackers try to present a listing as supposedly a legitimate offering.

BTW, the listing discussed by the OP has been nuked by eBay

That won't be any fun. Then I couldn't download the pictures into my counterfeit coin file so that I can warn other collectors about what going on.

This counterfeit problem is turning into a plague.
