Unfortunately if you are loyal paid subscriber, who paid more than 90 days ago, it looks like you will be waiting a long time before you get a refund if you get any refund at all.

I called customer service yesterday and got the bad news. The customer service rep didn't know anything about how to deal with the situation.

This is not exactly the reception I thought I'd receive, expecially since the emails about refunds were sent out a week or so ago. image

I'm curious why those who paid for this service in the past believe they are entitled to a refund?

I paid in August for a year's worth of service, which was something over $100. I didn't take the monthly billing feature. Why should I have to pay over $50 for a service that is now given out for free? PCGS offered to fix this problem, but now I and others like me are in an awkward position.

Because some of us paid for a year long subscription that has not yet expired. My paid for subscription doesn't end until the end of May... so until then I am apparently still paying for CoinFacts!!! Not free for me yet!!!

I too was very surprised and disappointed at the apparent PCGS policy not to refund the balance of these subscriptions, especially after they sent us an email asking to call them about a refund!!!!!!

Free is a low price to pay, nowadays. On that same token, think of the cost of tuition.

It has been "free" for about a week. As for those who paid more than 90 days ago, you will still get your full year of Coin Facts.

And I'm in the payment without refund group. I'm getting the product I paid for, not gonna whine. It's still worth the money.

Seems like that is not the only update going on...New web page design I am seeing under "coin grading". Coins in new CPG that have been debunked are being removed from sets (at least Lincolns) and I can not log in to my registry sets! Hopefully we will all mellow about these changes in a short while.

Not my intention to stir the pot about subscription refunds although I completely understand.

I have a gold membership but couldn't quite justify subscribing to CoinFacts too.

To be honest I probably would have been better off with just subscribing to CoinFacts.

    Looking forward to exploring.

As has already been mentioned, many of us subscribed for a year. If something is given away for FREE during that time, with no one else being charged any longer going forward, it seems the RIGHT thing to do, by a company, would be to refund, or compensate for the equivalent amount.

I have a Platinum membership. I believe I may be canceling that when it expires (in another 7 months!!! (that's how much I am PAYING for coinfacts that is NOW FREE.....7 more friggin' months, as a loyal customer), and then just renewing at the base level to allow submissions, when I feel like submitting.

I have been struggling to justify the membership anyway, since I don't buy a ton of raw coins or coins to crossover, and if I am paying for something everyone can get for free now, then it just adds to my thoughts to cancel.

PCGS dropped the ball. PCGS should have had a plan for ALL of the paying customers BEFORE they sent out their emails. They have succeeded in making the paying customers unhappy and those who have not paid happy. That is not a good corporate strategy.

The comments that say, "You are still getting a full year of serve," suck. You are not the people who are losing money. You don't promise one thing in the email and deliver nothing when the customer makes that the call you asked them to make. That is even more of a problem when you have to wait on hold for 15 minutes to get an answer.

Tires are included in the cost of a vehicle. Still a lot of people take the liberty to kick 'em , even though the "facts" are: a test drive is complimentary.

I understand what you are all stating, yet you are still contractually receiving exactly what it is you originally subscribed for.

If I paid for a year's worth of, "The Wall Street Journal" and during the course of my subscription the publisher offered a free subscription to members I wouldn't feel cheated as

I am receiving that which I paid for- regardless of what others are or are not paying.

If you purchase a new vehicle and a few weeks later that automobile brand offers a better interest rate and/or cash back incentives, you as a buyer of that vehicle weeks earlier are not

entitled to a discount as your deal is concluded (even though you are making monthly payments).

Think of it this way: If PCGS, instead of now giving away this service, doubled the subscription rate, would you think it fair of PCGS to go after you for additional funds?

    The deal is the deal.

If a new offer comes along- worse than yours, or in this case, substantially better, doesn't require the business to then modify your prior arrangement.

Black and white, you are correct. However, from a business standpoint, it is usually seen as bad business to have something negatively perceived by loyal/current customers. That's what this is.

For your examples.....if the Wall Street Journal did what you mentioned, I think I, and many others, would cancel and then re-subscribe with the free version.

The automobile one isn't really apples to apples. Different beast. Different contractual bits. Different timelines.

So, Pat, if your cable company had a plan for $100/mo and then, partway through, they reduced it to $50/mo for anyone that wanted it, would you continue paying the $100/mo or would you expect them to reduce it to the $50/mo that everyone else is getting?

I was being billed monthly, none upfront. Got email they would not be billing me anymore. Super!

I have given cheap slabs to kids (which would not generate anywhere their market value on ebay) and now they can track their value, pop for free by uploading the app to their phone.

The answer to this is that cable companies always specify the reduced rate is for NEW customers only. If they have offered it to ANYONE, then current subscribers paying $100 a month fall into that group eligible for the reduced rate.

On any given airline flight with 100 people aboard, there could be as many as 100 different prices paid for tickets. Having not paid the lowest price does not entitle all but that one passenger to expect to be refunded so that their cost matched the lowest ticket.

Having said that, I imagine that they will make things 'right' for customer service purposes.

What is the business reason for PCGS making CoinFacts free now? It seems that they're foregoing subscription revenues in the future.

Having just called my cable company 2 weeks ago and getting a reduced deal they were offering to everyone....ummm, you are WRONG.

Yes, many are for "new" customers. Don't ASSume though.

The airline analogy is apples to oranges. It is a limited amount that is available.

I love when people want to justify and argue, especially when it doesn't affect them, just to try to prove others wrong or show how much better they are than the ones impacted......

Reminds me of the parable where one guy is offered $50 to work for the day. After a half day, the boss brought in another helper to get the job finished and offered the new help $50 to work until the end of the day. The first worker got mad, saying it wasn't fair. This did not please the boss at all and that worker got sent home after a full day's work without a job. The other worker worked as hard and was appreciated for doing what he was paid to do, and what the boss agreed to pay him. Pity about that first worker. If he was busy doing what he was hired to do, he wouldn't have noticed what the other worker got paid and he would have been grateful for getting what he got. There is a moral to the story, but I forgot what it was.

I emailed a note to Customer Service yesterday. I paid for a year last August. I'm a 19 year member of the collectors club and seven years with Coin Facts, paying annually since 2009. I EXPECT to get my refund. It is the RIGHT thing to do. Steveimage

It is great that PCGS is now allowing everyone free use of CoinFacts. CoinFacts is a great resource for collectors and I feel it was worth the yearly subscription price.

While supporting the concept of CoinFacts, others stood on the sidelines. These same people who stood on the sidelines, are now questioning those who supported CoinFacts as to why they feel they should be treated differently. Those people that supported CoinFacts by paying a subscription, are not asking to be treated differently, but treated the same.

We all win with the celebration of PCGS's 30th anniversary.

    Thank you PCGS!!

The reality is : It's free. If you guys who want a refund for your paid subscription that is now perpetual, maybe start your own thread instead of raining on the parade.
